My own PC in "network" sometimes does not show

hi guys,

Random error, sometimes i don't see my own PC under "network" in the list of computers, i can see the other PC we have in the network, and if i go on the url bar and go \\MY_PC then i can see its shared files, then it magically appears in the list on the left hand side.

Yesterday i tried to change network name, restart, nothing, then put back the old one, restart and it was there. Today i saw the name appearing earlier now disappeared again.

"net view" gives me:

net viewSystem error 64 has occurred.The specified network name is no longer available.

and with nbtstat -r i can see only the "other" PC, under "NetBIOS Names Resolved By Broadcast", for some reason 4 times.

any quick fix ?

enable NETBios (in adapter properties)
enable IPv6 and all the rest of network adapter items.
enable discovery of this PC in network and sharing in control panel.

i did the netbios > nothing.

then i switched connection from private to public and then to private again, then the PC showed up.

then put it on standby, resumed and it was there after a while.

tested 2 more times with a standby, one time worked OK, after like 2 minutes of back from standby.

this last one now it has been 2 minutes and it's still empty

Ok fair then why the other computer in the network is always visible in the network list to me? that one was in standby last night, we just turned on like 30 mins ago and i see it in my network list.

Mine was also turned on and not appearing now. is that normal?

last night i launched net view and i could find my PC OK

right now i launched net view and i get:

System error 64 has occurred.

Now i went to \\ and added my network name, it appeared and now it shows in the list but i had to type it manually - OK,

yet net view still shows the same error... can i just reset this somewhere and shouldn't it fix itself? :) thank you

oh and last thing, in the menu on the left hand side now my PC shows



but in the other listing, it doesn't, isn't that odd?

it has been 18 minutes and now my PC is disappeared again in the list of PCs.

if i don't type in the name manually, it's not there, yet the other PC still there. i didn't restart or standby.


I checked on the other laptop and both PCs are there as it should be. Just mystery.

Restarted, PC didn't show, so i had an idea, i stopped this service:



then started it again and immediately my PC appears in the list now. any clues?

why it's on "tigger start"? in the screencap of that article is just on Automatic.

Maybe FDResPub service runs, but I had same issue with Win 10 only machines. both physical and VM.
And I did set up everything according to tutorial from Brink.

Network sharing simply does not work as expected.

LOL i know this was historically a problem but windows10 was MUUUUCH better than win7 etc, oh well, thanks for feedback guys, i found that switching off and on that service does the trick, not ideal but works.

On win10 side... i am connected via a usb-c hub, that has the ethernet connection, etc so it's a bit more "firewalled" in that sense...perhaps.........
