Cannot see any computers on WORKGROUP after latest updates

    Hi there
    What's up with Windows networking.

After latest updates I can't see any computers on LAN apart from the one I'm logged on to (SMB1 etc all set OK).
However if I change the name from WORKGROUP to anything else - everything is visible again.

What's the problem with the standard name WORKGROUP -- this is for a Home LAN not some totally secure CIA station or similar !!!!.

    Any suggestions.

(Computers van be reached via Filezilla and things but you don't always know the IP addresses in advance -- I'm using DHCP so it would be annoying to change all that).

Why does Windows networking vary so much between updates -- the OS that shouldn't be named here !!!! never seems to have these sorts of issues with Networking.

    Cheers

I gave up on that and just map a network drive for each computer.

Changing the workgroup name on Windows computers and in SAMBA conf file on NAS servers ,restarting SAMBA on the NAS (Linux) systems then everything is visible again.

I'd get some Linux network guys / gals - lock them in a room with some Windows Network guys / gals and not let anybody out until they've fixed the Windows Networking -- No food, No drink only "Bucket slop type toilets" and most unconfortable chairs on the planet --maybe a few tree stumps -- then perhaps we'd get Windows Networking 100% working and reliable again in about 15 mins.

Network map after changing workgroup name : (Before only the logged on computer was visible !!!)

These days Networking should be 100% mainstream -- how difficult is it really to get working on HOME networks -- forget all the mega security - leave that for servers and e-commerce - home users just want to be able to access shared resources and probably multi-media files.

    Cheers

These networking problems are present since I don't know how far back in time.
