I ended up going to Wal-Mart and spending a little more than anticipated, but $139 for the Nighthawk AC2400, i couldn't beat the price.
Sounds like you got a good deal on your router.
I've owned 3 wireless routers for home use in the past nearly 20 years. Crazy..yeah...only 3.
1 Linksys (WRT54G). Lasted a very long time
1 Netgear N600 Dual Band Router. (Upgraded because my LInksys unexpected died and I bought whatever Target had)
1 Google WiFI (3 puck system). It's what I am currently using. I upgraded to this because my Netgear only supported 100Mbps, and I was moving to 500Mbps internet service.
My Google Wifi setup by far is the best that I have used. It just works. Coverage is great. And with 3 access points, it's never overloaded.

make sure though that when most parts of the USA join the rest of the planet in having really fast Internet services and proper cable (not copper ADSL2 etc but genuine fibre optic stuff) that your router and Wifi is capable of carrying it or you will have to go through the same hassle again.
USA has of course been absolutely brilliant for advances in technology in a lot of things - but I've found that perhaps outside those classical great city areas such as NYC, LA, Chicago or Boston these days the internet infrastructure for a great 1st world country is a bit lacking compared to some of the smaller Nordic Countries. !!!!
We're already upgrading base standards to 10Gb/s for basic Internet -- never mind the 500 Mb/s and slower stuff.
