Netspeedmonitor works for admin, not for user

Netspeedmonitor puts a simple U/D speed display on the taskbar. It has worked for years on Win 10 and Linux.
I run Win 10 version 20H2 build 19042.844 on an HP desktop with 4 GB memory and an amd64 dual core running at 2 GHz

The app version is "netspeedmonitor_2_5_4_0_x64_setup.msi". This is the latest version at this time and has been running for many months. However, now it only runs for the Administrator account. It does not run under my user account. I have done everything suggested on the web: opened up a firewall, installed in compatibility mode, put an executable in the startup folder. But still no luck.

I am using Firefox V86.0 64 bit as a browser.

    @louarnold

    Hello, welcome to Ten Forums.

I've never used that program, but have you tried "running as Administrator" on your user account?

There is no option to run the installer with "Run as Administrator" in the User account . The app was installed under the Administrator account to begin with.

Many times, programs allow you the option of "installing for all users" during install?

I just went to the Netspeed Monitor website, and the site itself is infected.
I then checked the softpedia website, and in the description it explains, that this program has trouble on Windows 8 and above.
On cnet.com it doesn't list Windows 10 as compatible with this program.
On github they are only up to version 1.0.15

Personally, I use AIDA64 Extreme to monitor my DL/UL rate, and DL/UL amounts.

I was aware of the hacked website. I also know the app was not recommended for Windows 10, but installing with Compatibility was supposed to work. It does not. The Github version number is truly suspicious and I must admit that its time to find another app that does the trick.

I would like to find another app that is lightweight and has similar functionality - a simple u/d byte count in the system tray and a way to monitor one of several network connections. There should be versions for Linux and Windows 10.

Thanks to Ghot for your research.

Well what do they say? Ask and you shall receive? Just saw this late last night.
Ghacks is a reputable site, btw. (So is GitHub btw.)

And if that doesn't do it for you... they mention two more (with links) at the bottom of the article...

I have been a long-time fan and user of Helmut Buhler's excellent 8GadgetPack and the network and CPU meter gadgets, to wit:
Netspeedmonitor works for admin, not for user-image.png
Clock and Control System also showing. Works like a champ, use it on all of my production & test systems. Here's the home page: 8GadgetPack - Gadgets for Windows 10 / 8.1 / 7.

Well, its been a rough day. Almost nothing worked. To make a long story short, I had just about settled on XMeter, but it seemed the free version didn't quite work. I emailed the author, but to no avail. On the next try the taskbar froze. So I decided against XMeters. Other software just didn't put the display on the taskbar - too much information for what I want.

Later, doing something altogether different, the taskbar froze again. I'm beginning to think Windows is the cause. Perhaps some update needs to happen.
Thanks again, people. You may see me again, in time.
