Final conclusion looking elsewhere on the internet and my own experiences: these issues are software/Windows-related.

    Sadly, I have no solution.

    Hi @otronics,

I had the same problem with DNS being lost. I have way too many PCs here some running Win 10, others various forms of Linux. I have just built a new PC and did a clean install of win 10. My old PC was a 10 year old Win 10 machine (started as WIn 7) that I'd upgraded over the years, but never clean-installed. The last clean install I did was on another machine, probably at the back end of last year. All machines run Avast anti-virus (have been for years) and I have never seen a problem like this. I was having the same issue as you - everything working fine (I'd tried multiple network cards/ports etc) and other machines being able to ping/use this machine fine, but no DNS. The system said the DNS was fine, but it just wasn't working. This was happening every morning when I used the machine.

Then noticed that an auto-update page which updates every few seconds had died overnight. It is timestamped, so I looked in the windows log around that time and Avast had been updated. Turned off Avast shields for 10 minutes and DNS came back immediately.

I'm now trying Kaspersky and that seems to be working OK.

    Thanks for this.

The problem is only occurring very occasionally now thank goodness.

Have you tried disabling or uninstalling Kaspersky (Free)?

The reason I'm suggesting uninstalling is that many antivirus apps appear to contain a disable switch, however; it doesn't always function sufficiently and the app still has influence on Windows.

If you were experiencing DNS issues every 3 or 4 days, try uninstalling Kaspersky for that period and longer if the DNS fault disappears and stays away.

    Hello.

I have and there was no change.

I also use Kaspersky on four other machines with no problems.

We have 2 laptops with Windows 10 Home v. 20H2, build 19042.1288. They share the same WiFi router.

On one machine, internet connectivity is lost a couple times a day. The laptop to router connection is fine (SSID displayed) but "no internet access." As with others on this thread, troubleshooting the connection reports a DNS server error with no helpful fix. Rebooting temporarily restores connectivity. Meanwhile, the second machine has never had the problem.

During a period of lost connectivity, I clicked the up-arrow in the taskbar notification area to launch McAfee LiveSafe so I could tinker with the firewall settings. To my surprise, the Skype icon was active though we hadn't used Skype for over a month. I right-clicked and Quit Skype...and all internet connectivity was immediately restored!

Things were fine for a couple days, then the DNS problem returned. Sure enough, Skype was running in the background again. Opened Skype settings, had to disable Launch-on-startup and On-close-keep-Skype-running.

So far, so good. If the situation changes, I'll post an update.
