    Internet connection issue

Yesterday i wanted to connect a laptop to my connection. I mainly use a desktop but i wanted to connect the old laptop for certain things. Anyways, i know nothing about this so i called a friend after i could not connect. We never got it sorted and tats fine, but he had me look at the ATT modem by typing the IP into the browser. I was instructed to check certain things on different tabs but nothing stuck out as wrong to him. He also had me pull the plug on the modem and that didn't work either. So we gave up and i just decided i will continue to just use my desktop. I also tried hitting the reset button on the modem this morning after seeing it is still doing it after turning it off last nite and still no joy.

Heres the thing....i never touched a single setting on the modem settings and so i figure it must have something to do with rebooting the modem. Whats happening now with my desktop is when i try and go to various websites it will work at times and other times it won't i get a browser window with

Hmm. We’re having trouble finding that site. We can’t connect to the server at YouTube. If that address is correct, here are three other things you can try:
    Try again later.
Check your network connection. If you are connected but behind a firewall, check that Firefox has permission to access the Web.

The firewall is off and has always been. This happens with any site i try and access about 20% of the time. Sometimes it takes a second try to get there, sometimes 10 tries. Is there something else i can do to fix this? If u know ATT u know that calling them is a all day thing and rarely works anyways, not to mention the reps are usually either rude of clueless. So thats an absolute last resort. What might cause this? My connection has been 100% reliable for at least the last year or 2 straight till this.

Sounds like an AT&T DNS server problem. I would try changing the DNS server settings on the modem/router to google:
8.8.8.8 primary and 8.8.4.4 secondary. Other members will probably have their own opinions about which DNS server to use.

I don't know, but whatever it was i rebooted the box again and it seems to have worked this time and seems ok now. If it starts up again i'll post back but it hasn't done it once since.
