    Best wi-fi settings for gaming?

I'm going to try to optimize my wi-fi settings for gaming. I don't have the possibility to use a cable, so i will have to try to make the best of it. I have this wireless network card. I have listed the settings for my wireless network card below. If anyone has some expertise about these settings, please post it in this thread.

    20/40 Coexistance.

    40mhz Intolerant.

    802.11h+d.

    802.11n Preamble.

    Antenna Diversity.

    Ap Compatibility Mode.

    Arp offload.

    Assocation Roam Preference.

    • Band Preference.

    • Bandwidth Capability.

    • Beamforming.
(Solved, it should be enabled, as it provides a better and more reliable signal.)

    • Bluetooth Collaboration.
(Solved, it should be enabled to prevent any conflicts with bluetooth.)

    • Bss Plcp Header.

    • Bt-Amp.

    • Disable Bands.

    • Disable Upon Wired Connect.

    • Fragmentation Treshold.

    • Ibss 54g Protection Mode.

    • Ibss Mode.

    • Locally Administered Mac Adress.

    • Minimum Power Consumption.

    • Mixed Cell Support.

    • Ns Offload.

    • Power Output.

    • Priority & Vlan.

    • Qam 256.

    • Rate 802.11a.

    • Rate 802.11b/g.

    • Roam Tendency.

    • Roaming Decision.

    Rts Treshold.

    Short Gi.

    Wake on Magic Packet.

    Wifi Rekeying Offload.

    Wmm.

    Wzc Ibss Channel Number.

    Xpress Technology.

Sorry, I don't have a clue. Personally I'd leave it on defaults except if you have the option to specify channel numbers to avoid conflicting nearby wireless networks.

On another note I use this to optimize connection: TCP Optimizer
    SpeedGuide.net :: TCP Optimizer / Downloads

The thing is - it does allow backup/ restore of current settings before messing about.

The documentation mentions gaming tweaks. I'm not a gamer but have a read. (Advanced settings)

    SG :: TCP Optimizer 4 Documentation - Windows 7, 8, 10, 2012 Server

Also I have no idea if the following really works or how to test it but I use it anyway:

There is really nothing that you can change. Wifi will always have more lag than a wired connection due to the overhead.

all these settings your listed are the least important, biggest factor is whether your router supports ac standard, what internet speeds are you paying and getting and who else is using your wi-fi in your house and for what purposes.

Once you optimize these major factors, driver settings are next thing to do to fine tune network.
Finally you also have to pay attention to multiplayer server, ex. server FPS, ping etc.

Finding a bottleneck is important, for example, something that has greatest impact on slow performance and then solving this first.

My router supports the ac standard, like most routers, my connection is a 300 mbit connection, although i think a slower connection is good enough for gaming, as ping is the most important as you said, but my ping is usually about 10 according to pingtest, and im mostly the only person using my wi-fi for gaming. I would still like to optimize these settings, though.

This is a good wifi card, it will completely use your 300 mbit speed. You should consider this function of this card "Beamforming Technology - Receives more directional Wi-Fi signals, improving speed and reliability", personally I do not know.

edit: Check that the card uses the highest bandwidth of your router, eg. 20 MHz, 40 MHz, 80 MHz and 160 MHz.

As far as i know, beamforming only works if both the wireless network card and router supports it, but i will check to see if my router supports it as well.

for ping test to be reliable you need to test it against game server while gaming.

most settings you listed are unrelated to performance, ex. wake on magic packet or power consumption will get you nothing.

band preference yes, but you'll have to test it yourself, it depends on factors such as neighboring networks, in the end you gain very little or nothing.

nobody using WI-FI is fine, but if other house members use line connection to router that could degrade WI-FI speed, can be the cause with some bad routers or tech limitations, ex streaming and gaming in same time by multiple people will usually give bad performance.

if your gateway has configurable NAT, you want to set it to cone instead of any symetric flavors.
Too many factors, but if you have no issues then all is probably fine and needs no adjustment.

Does your router support beamforming or did you mark solved because you learned about the functionality of this option?

You are not going to improve how the server that you are connecting to performs along the route back to you through the Internet. There are too many factors along with too many servers hosted on private Internet connections in someone’s home.
