    DNS Settings

    Hello

I was looking for different ways to help speed up my slow ADSL connection.
I learned that changing your DNS settings to use a different provider is something that you could actually do for free

So I did a search in google for the fastest DNS servers in Australia and I found this service which is apparently a lot faster than using cloudflare 1.1.1.1 or google 8.8.8.8
They have a page on there site that give you the IPs for the DNS servers. I choose to use the Melbourne DNS servers

What I would like to know is. How do I actually test if using these Australian DNS servers are faster?

It makes no difference to your slow ADSL connection. Mine is a measured 13 Mbps. In my case the ISP provided DNS server became unreliable and they themselves changed it to the Google Public DNS temporarily.

So changed it myself, maybe permanently, as it has been reliable thus far.

I use Google Public DNS servers 8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4

You can run some software to check DNS speeds with different DNS servers, but in UK the differences are so small it is a pointless exercise. Reliability is way more important.

It is only the resolution of names into IP addresses, nothing to do with download speed.

Yeah thanks heaps. I am fully aware that is does not help my download speed. However it does help with the lookup speed.
When you have a 3mbps ADSL connection such as I do. Every little bit helps. Hence why I am looking for alternative ways to speed up my browsing a little bit.
My only other option is to go to someone like skymesh because my current physical location just does not have the cables, exchanges or DSLAMs to support a faster connection.

I actually just tried to use the bench mark test you advised me to use. It turns out that the Melbourne DNS server I want to use on this site is faster than google and cloudflare. And its only 20kms away from my location.
The closest cloudflare (end point for me is almost 1000 km away.

So im now using 45.124.52.17 (Melbourne) for my primary and in the alternate section I am using 1.1.1.1
Thanks for letting me know about the benchmark tool I. I can actually see faster page loading times now.
It turned out that 45.124.52.17 was 60% faster than 1.1.1.1 (Thats what bench mark tool told me)

Thanks very much for that. Really appreciated.

There is NOTHING wrong with your account if that is what you are thinking. It is because you do NOT have VIP access status.

    I hope this helps.
