Directional antenna for distant Wi-fi?

I’ve heard that there are antennas available that are directional and canbe used with a laptop to access Wi-fi that is further away, or to geta stronger connection with signals that are normally distanced. Well, there’s a neighborhood park about 3 blocks from my house thathas free Wi-fi, and I was thinking that I could use such an antennato access this Wi-fi spot from home so I would no longer have to takemy laptop to the park to get Wi-fi. One problem though: How would Iconnect the antenna to my laptop? I don’t see external antennaconnections. So how does someone connect an external antenna totheir laptop? My laptop is a Dell Inspiron 5558.

I purchased exactly this model from Aliexpress.
The original Antenna Sticks are better than this rubbish.
According to Online calculators for Antennas this Amazon model is completly wrong designed.

Search Google for Biquad.
You will get some results for building one by our own (what I did) but hopefully ther are also some results for sellers of this kind of antennas.

My experience is good. I connected two WiFi surveiance cams (each with own Biquad) to a 120m WiFi Accesspoint without any connction loss.

Another option would be the "long Range Booster" from Netgear. I called it so because I don't know the exact name of it.
I'm sure you will find it when searching the available models on the Netgear webpage

The example given is only 6 dB of gain over what is in your Laptop which is very little improvement.

No idea what 3 blocks is over the pond, at a guess, several hundred metres/yds.

You can buy USB WiFi dongles with a standard antenna socket, or a combined dongle/antenna like the example.

It replaces/separate from the Laptop internal Wireless card which is connected to an antenna usual placed in the lid.

No sense in throwing away a perfectly good can when you can make a directional WiFi antenna out of it. Working on a small tripod for it. Output connector adapter to SMA. Stub trimmed for 2.4GHZ

The improvement is very slight, as I said, about 6 dB of gain which is not much.
The chances are very high that it would just be waste of time and money.

Same applies to a baked bean can with a ¼λ stub.

We still do not know the distance or of any obstacles in the way, so it is rather pointless speculation.
