Did you ever find the problem?

I have VLC for Android TV.
It can read files on all computers except one.
It can see the computer, but I get "VLC is unable to open MRL file" error.

So, like you, I suspect it's a problem with the computer settings, but I have compared computer settings with computers that VLC for Android TV can read files on, and they appear to be the same.

I am tending to think it is an SMB problem.
Something that doesn't occur on the problem computer is that I cannot get the login and password screen to pop up.

If I could get that to pop up again, then I am thinking that maybe all it needs is the login name and password re-entered, but I cannot find how to re-enable the prompt.

I have uninstalled VLC for Android TV and reinstalled it, but I get the same result.
The problem computer used to work until the last time I tried it about 2 weeks ago.

did you guys ever fixed this? I have the same problem now and I can't seem to have that login prompt to show. I have successfully done this to my pc way back but no success so far on a yoga lenovo laptop.

I think for me to be able to see the files from the laptop, i also need to input that smbv1 authentication login

    EDITS:
    - To get the SMB Authentication Login Prompt
    *follow all the comments above
    *additional things I did:
    1. On Windows Feature, turn on basic authentication Android app (VLC) can't access Shared Folder-photo_2024-04-16_20-12-19.jpg
    2. On Optional Features: (somebody said to download OPENSSH) Download Openssh Server and Openssh Client
    3. After these, I uninstall then install VLC back.
Sometime after reopening. (i didn't even do anything) the prompt just popped up automatically.

    For the user and password
*Input Computer user name. (if not known, go to command prompt, type in 'echo %username%' without the ' then enter. username shall pop up in there. then use your password for the computer user.
