Mapped network drive, Windows keeps asking for password

I've got an Unraid server and one of it's SMB shares is mapped as a drive on my Windows PC. What has been annoying me for quite some time is the fact that Windows keeps asking for the password after every reboot. I've removed and re-mapped the share, I've cleared the appropriate entry in the Windows credential manager... nothing helps. What's even stranger is the fact that Windows does not ask for a password when I browse the server through the "Network" entry in Windows Explorer. It only asks for the password to connect to the mapped drive.

Seriously I'm out of ideas (besides reinstalling Windows of course). Any help would definitely be appreciated.

Hi the only thing I can think of when you setup the mapped drive did you make sure their is a check in reconnect at sign in.

I would try and use the same log on name and password on both devices

I did exactly that, changed the user name and password on the server to match the Windows one. Result: I still have to enter the password after every reboot. This is ridiculous

It seems to me that you might be using the Connect using different credentials setting but I can see that you have repeatedly cleared & re-setup the mapping so that seems unlikely.
    Map network drive - TenForumsTutorials
    - See Option 1 Step 5 and possibly other paras in the tutorial.

Perhaps you could clear the mapping again,
check that the relevant Registry entry is removed &
map it to a different drive letter just to make sure that no previous mistake could be affecting your subsequent attempts to map it without the Connect using different credentials setting.

    Best of luck,

Unbelievable, after some more trial and error I finally got it to work. I did the following:

    1. Disconnect the network drive
    2. Delete the corresponding registry value for the mounting point
    3. Restart
    4. Re-map the network drive using a different drive letter
    5. Entering the credentials using the prefix "localhost" (localhost\username) telling Windows to use a local account
    6. Several restarts to confirm that reconnect after login actually works without entering the password

So far it seems that the issue has finally been fixed. I really hope it stays that way. Otherwise you will hear from me again Thanks to everybody who helped.
