    How to make my TV speak to my PC wirelessly

    Let me get this straight off the bat I am not asking for my PC to recognize my TV but the other way around. Since my PC does not see my TV I assume the problem is that my TV is not "speaking" with anyone. I have WiFi but not Bluetooth. I read that both media need to be on the same WiFi network (which is logical enough) and I assume it is. I assume it is because there is only one WiFi modem in this house and I had to use the same password to connect my WiFi.
    You could ask me why don't I read the manual form my TV and herein lies the other problem. I am in China, my TV is Chinese and I can't read Chinese. (If I can't get help here I will try to find a local person to help me with it).
    Many places I read mention that all I have to do is connect the WiFi to the same network and if that is indeed all I have to do then why does my PC not see it? (Add a device etc never shows my TV). Something is wrong somewhere that's for sure.

    @pintree3

    Do you by chance have the make/model of the TV?
    WE might be able to find an English manual, cause we're not in China.

    Your TV will only connect to Wi-Fi if it has built-in apps that connect to the Internet. A TV that does this is also called a Smart TV.

    If you have a Smart TV then in the TV settings there should be network setup where you select the router's SSID and and enter the password for it.

    If all this does not make sense then at least use your remote to see if their is a network setup.

    BTW, why is important to connect your computer to your TV. Is there something in particular you want to do?

    Hi, there's a difference between 'casting' (a video) to your TV and Miracast.

    If you want your entire screen to be seen on your TV via Wifi, it needs to support Miracast

    Hi there

    @pintree3

    One possible problem is the TV might only be able to see other devices if SMB1 is used so you will need to set SMB1 on Windows. The TV will generally have some type of Linux / Android hybrid OS in it so sharing will probably be done by SMB protocol (SAMBA).

    the other question -- do you simply want to "Image" the remote computer screen, play multi-media or stream video both from the computer on to the TV.

    If your TV can "Sideload apps" then install VLC and you should be able to browse your lan, play multimedia from shared HDD's and stream from it.

    I'd though recommend using an Amazon firestick device plugged into the TV and then install KODI on it -- advantage of this is that all the streaming etc can be done from the TV - you don't need to have any server etc on the remote computer. You'll still need to enable SMB1 on the PC (and on the KODI app on the fire stick - simple enough in settings when you start KODI)

    I'm sure if AMAZON is not available in parts of China then ALIBABA will certainly have an identical device !!!!

    Hi everyone and thank you all. Let me answer all questions to the best of my capability. The name of my TV? It's a Chinese brand with a Chinese name (Chinese characters) so I do not know its name and I am certain an English manual does not exist for it. The remote control is also in Chinese. I am in the process of seeing if I can get a universal one in English.
    Reminder streaming is not my main purpose but watching movies from my PC without having to use an HDMI cable. You can consider my TV as if I bought a really large monitor for it which happens to be in a different room. As to SMB1, I have no idea what that is and this is the1st time I hear of it (I guess I gotta do some reading . And yes, I can sideload apps but haven't tried that yet.
    Since I mentioned WiFi and all, yes, it a smart TV. And yes, I also said that I did input the password to the WiFi to make my TV go online hence it does have built in apps and when the TV is turned on the 1st thing I see is "Smart TV" followed by "ANDROID".
    As to what I want to do with it and why I want to connect with it there are 2 reasons: Watch movies (mkv, mp4 etc.) already on my PC & occasionally watch Netflix or a sports match. My TV is only used for such purposes since I cannot even watch TV shows on it since it is not connected to a TV cable (I normally don't watch much TV back home so I won't pay for a TV line or cable here which will only give me channels I do not understand).
    As to MiraCast or Wi-Fi Alliance I see no such thing on my TV. What is see is 'Aptoid TV', 'Chrome', Local Player, Settings and Apps buttons. If I go to my Settings, it takes me to Network which is where I set in my password for the WiFI.
    Play as I did with my remote control I cannot see anything else except for the HDMI, AV1 etc place. NO I cannot even access where I could fool around with the Colors, hues of the TV. It seems to have nothing.

    I do not know of SMB1. This is the first time I hear of it . I guess I will have to do some reading. As to VLC I'll have to read up on that too, thanks. Though streaming is not my main purpose so I will 1st try to solve this other problem. As to Kodi I am not sure this is what I need. Oh and you may find this strange but my 50 inch TV only cost me US $200 and so far, visually, it is as good as my friend's $800 3-year old Samsung. I bought this cheap TV because it suits my purpose since my purpose is limited and I will need it for only 2 years or less. Considering these factors spending $100 on a Firestick & Kodi seems odd but doable since that I can take back with me--but Kodi will not help me do what I want to do

    Kodi will absolutely do what you want -- you only need to install on TV if possible or on a firestick.

    Then you browse your LAN - you'll see your PC - just browse for the file you want to play - and it plays. You don't need any server on your PC !!! KODI is free software of course !!! as is VLC.

    VLC should do much the same but sometimes I've found that the android version (both on firestick and TV) isn't as good at connecting to remote computers !!!

    Cheers
