    Two unknown Xfinity networks.

Yesterday I upgrade my Xfinity internet to the unlimited plan and they told me I would have to return my old modem and replace it with a new one that has a built in router. When setting it up with their app I gave the wireless network a name that would make it easy to recognize from the other wireless networks. For example my two HP printers and my neighbors WiFi. Now when I look at available networks I see a secured network called XFINITY and a unsecure network called xfinitywifi. They both have strong signals so I'm assuming it's from my new modem/router. I do remember occasionally seeing them before but with very week signals. Anyone know why they are there and is the unsecure xfinitywifi a risk I have to worry about. I don't want someone parking across the street using it to do illegal stuff on the internet.

By default xfinity enables guest accounts on your router so the General public who subscribes to Xfinity can use your router for WiFi when they are close enough. That's why I would never use a modem/router rented from Xfinity, I want to be in control of my WiFi, not Xfinity.

The rep I talked to said that I had to upgrade the modem to be able to upgrade my data plan to the unlimited plan. They now limit data to 1.2TB. My family does a lot of streaming and I received a email that I was up to 70% and starting in March they would charge a extra $10.00 for every 50GB we go over up to a total of $100.00. I was happy with my old setup. A old Comcast modem with phone connected to a Netgear router. I don't understand why but that is what she said. The email did get me motivated to finally downgrade my plan. Now I have unlimited data and my cable bill will be lower. I also lost my networked HDD that was connected to the Netgear router.

You did have to upgrade your modem, that is true. But you don't have to rent it from them. You could have kept your existing Netgear router. It's not too late to fix things, though and have the way you want them.

Windows calls some of these services PuPs and Google is pushing apps through webpages as the new "things" for services. Expect to see more weirdness .

I noticed carrier services being pushed down the branches too, particularly service providers that host DNS queries, VPN services, filters, ad (content) blockers, and other proxy or security like options though network cards... Even
seen installable as a software (Windows and Intel offer it for managed users, e.g. TPM users) and often accompanied with Root Certificate to allow access, setup DHCP, file transfer or media transfer protocols... Offline file sharing for a multitude of services.

Don't ignore it though, see if you can sign into it. Might be a honey pot or sometimes hardware gets mirrored or cloned accidentally. If you ever see duplicate USB devices when you had not b4 is example....
