I am Experiencing problems with connecting via Ethernet

My computer has experienced a problem where when I plug in the Ethernet cable and connect to the network, it fails to connect to the internet says it is an "Undefined Network" and can't connect to the Internet. When I run a diagnosis it finds that Ethernet doesn't have a valid IP configuration.

    Windows specs

    Edition Windows 10 Pro
    Version 20H2
    Installed on ‎4/‎09/‎2020
    OS build 19042.746
Experience Windows Feature Experience Pack 120.2212.551.0

I am using a Realtek PCIe GbE Family Controller

If you need any information Just ask

Could you connect to the Internet via Ethernet previously?

    Hi Kylie,

I just finished a Build for a Client with an Asrock H410m-HVS motherboard with Realtek PCIe GbE Family Controller LAN.
Exact same issue. "Unidentified Network", Ethernet doesn't have a valid IP configuration (after troubleshooting).
There is a noted workaround in Control Panel - Power Options - Choose what the Power Button Do - Change Settings that are Currently Unavailable - Uncheck the "Turn on Fast Start Up" Option - Then Restart.

I have had no luck with this work around but some people have.

I have a Personal Computer/Laptop and Workshop System with Intel LAN Family and they are working fine with the Windows 20H2 Update.
Installing a wireless adapter solves the Issue on my Clients Build, although not a great solution, but it works for now.

I will need to reinstall Windows 10 and check the LAN adapter to see if it is working before the 20H2 update is installed.
I did not realise the Adapter was not working, until I took to the Customer and plugged into Ethernet, as this Build was completed entirely over a Wireless Network.

It is possible your router is starting to crap out . For some reason it may not be handing out an ip address . Did you try rebooting the router ? Does the router see your nic mac address ?

Right-click on the Start button --> Windows PowerShell. Run the following command and post the output.

    Ipconfig /all
