    Searched No Avail

I'm looking for a way to do this. My desktop computer will go into sleep mode after 3 hours of no use. Great, I love it. However, when I get on my notebook, I can't access my hard drive on my desktop because it's in sleep mode. How do I make my desktop wake up from sleep mode over the network?
    Thanks

The term is "wake on LAN".

I don't use it, but this may help: How to Turn Your Computer on From Across the House | PCMag

It requires BIOS support. I think that's common.

What @bobkn said. But to add, following forums shows Sleep and Hibernation have issues and whether desired access is accomplished may be affected by those. I use NAS drives for file sharing/storing/access that are attached to my Router, no one computer has to be running.

I would love to have a NAS, but, I don't really know that much about them, which one to get, etc.. I basically want it to house all my data files and programs (not to run them from NAS). Then comes the problem that at night I would even want the NAS to be off until a certain time during the morning. From there, let my computers and android devices see the data/movies. Then after all this, let's say the hdd goes or is about to go, how can I pull all the data off, back on to my computer and carry on.
But if you can answer these, great. If not I thank you.

I've used the Western Digital NAS drives for a number of years, 2 x 2TB, in a peer-to-peer Network [not Server-based] for several years. I believe they are designed for running 24/7 especially in businesses that have round-the-clock needs. I don't have need for running programs, just storage and transfers to other computers as needed, there are programs that can be installed on a Server for users to access in their work but they can be more costly. I don't think the NAS drives will fail anymore than internal ones do [probably less] but still backups are always good, paramount to saving data, anything that exists nowhere else.
