    External HD frustrating issue

Hi guys. Hoping someone can help me. I've had some major PC issues lately and thankfully they are now fixed. I had to completely reinstall Windows 10 however and since then I'm having some issues sharing my external hard drive on my network so it appears and is accessible via my TV.

The issue is kind of a strange one in that I can see it, I can access it but the issue is certain files are not viewable on the smart TV however is accessible and viewable on the PC as the contents are in there.

Edit: Not sure if this is related or not but turning media streaming on only seems to work for a bit and then after each reboot it turns itself off

Please can someone advise what I can do?

If you reinstall 10 and the disk was from the old 10 then files will be owned by the SID of the old user and you may need to take ownership of the folders to gain access

It's an external HD and the user has always been the same (me). Basically what's happening is I can see the external HD on my network via smart TV and access files but when I put new files on there, they don't show up. I have a workaround where I have to unplug the HD and then replug it back in and then the new files will show. I turn media streaming on but each time I shut down and reboot, it's turned off again.

It isnt you when you reinstall windows you may have the same username but it gets a new SID so your current SID isnt the same if you look at security setting on the folders you may see owned by a long sid number

Thank you I will have a look at that.

How come when I unplug the external drive and plug it back in, all folders refresh and I can see everything? Could it be something do with services I need to ensure are enabled

If files are owned by someone else you will see them but not exicute or change or open them

But these are files that I have got today. Not from anyone else previously.

Seem to have fixed the issue. My hard drive was set to turn off after 20 minutes or so.

Bit of a snag now though. I have to keep manually turning on media streaming via network and sharing centre after each shutdown or reboot. How do I set this so it's automatically on?

    Many thanks
