Ethernet slow to connect after sleep or reboot

    Hello all,

Another user has posted a similar thread but I wanted to create a new one just to see if anyone is having similar issues. When my computer used to reboot or wake from sleep my ethernet would be immediately connected. I could type in my password, click on chrome, and immediately go to a website. Now the network is stuck on identifying for about 30 to 40 seconds before getting a connection and working. This has been an issue I've noticed for the past 4 or so days.

Windows version is 20H2 build 19042.685
    ISP is xfinity.

As far as troubleshooting steps I have:
    Uninstalled and reinstalled network adapter.
    Updated my network drivers.
    Reset network settings.
    Flushed all dns settings.
Set a static IP and dns.
    Reset router multiple times.
Tried using a different port on router.
Tried using a different ethernet cable.

If I disable ethernet and switch to WiFi there is no issue. The WiFi reconnects after reboot or sleep almost immediately just as you would expect.

I'm thinking this is an issue with the latest build of 20H2 as I haven't seen many people report it. If anyone has tips or is experiencing this I would love to know.

I just did a test. My PPPoE connection worked as soon as my PC woke from sleep. The modem was on during the sleep.

    AlphaXray,

I'm having the same issue with my ethernet connection coming out of sleep mode. Takes about 35 seconds to connect, when it used to connect almost immediately.

Xfinity is my ISP too, and I have Windows 10 Home, 20H2, build 19042.685. As best as I can tell, it started about 1-2 weeks ago for me. Wifi connects almost immediately. I think it may have started after a Windows Update, but not positive.

I haven't done too much to in efforts to correct the issue, other than search the internet to see if anyone else is having the problem:

    Reset network settings
    Power reset Xfinity Gateway
    Rebooted PC

I posted my problem on the Xfinity Forums the other day. Last night, someone replied to my post and said they were having the same issue. Started a couple of days ago.

Thanks for posting, because now I know I'm not the only one! Frustrating.

Restart Network Connections after Windows wakes from sleep.

Net stop "Netman" & Net start "Netman"

Run the above line of commands via elevated Command Prompt.

Thanks, Matthew. I may give that a try.

AlphaXray: Since you use Xfinity, maybe you'd like to also join the thread I started on the Xfinity Forums regarding this issue? Like I mentioned, there's another user on that thread having the same problem, which just started for him too. He's using the same Xfinity Gateway as I am. Just a thought.

Re: Delayed Ethernet Connection - Xfinity Help and Support Forums - 3394865

I'm beginning to wonder if it could be an Xfinity issue. Today, I dusted off my old Windows 7 HP laptop that has an ethernet port. Used a different cable. Same problem, to the second. Takes 35 seconds to identify and connect to the internet. I tested it by disconnecting the ethernet cable (then plugging back in), as well as bringing it out of the sleep mode. Works the same either way.

Oh wow. Someone on the Microsoft forums also commented the same thing. We are both using the xfinity xb6. Which is the grey rectangle with the slanted top.

The following member also uses Xfinity. Their problem has been solved by installing a new modem.

Please Help. Ethernet always takes 30 seconds to connect to internet.

Thanks, Matthew. AlphaXray joined our Comcast thread, as there was another user with the same problem. Alpha swapped out the modem with Comcast and it resolved the issue. Comcast obviously changed some config setting in the modem to cause this, and clearly they don't know how to fix it. My concern is that whatever they did will just come back again, at some point, after swapping out the modem!

Hi - New to this forum...

I'm having the same issue with the XB6 Gateway provided by Shaw Cable (in Western Canada). I have Internet 300 Service with them.

Something had changed in the last 2-3 weeks and it's been driving me nuts.

I have Windows 10 and a wired Ethernet connection to the XB6.

Recently the computer has been unusually slow to connect to the Internet following a cold boot (roughly 15 seconds). Same goes for when I put the computer to Sleep. Upon wakeup, it turns out that the ethernet needs to reconnect each time, whereas it should stay continuously connected. With SSD's and a fast processor, wake from Sleep has usually been around 5-8 seconds. Now it takes a full 30 seconds while waiting for the internet to come back online.

I've tried many of the same things as described in the forum here.
    - Check that Windows is up to date / Uninstall recent updates.
    - Update BIOS
    - Uninstall / Reinstall the Network Adapter ('Intel Ethernet Connection (7) I219-V')
    - Update Network Adapter Software / Try earlier version(s)
    - Device Manager > Ethernet Adapter > Properties Tab > Power Management > UNCHECK 'Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power'. (I've done this numerous times)
    - Reset the XB6 Gateway
    - Try a different port on the XB6, change the Ethernet cable.

At this point, I can only say that it's either a recent Windows setting change (glitch), or a change to the software or configuration of the XB6 pushed by the ISP.

One area that I found that the ISP had recently made a change, is in the XB6 'WiFi' menu:
Log into the XB6 and go to Gateway > Connection > WiFi > Edit 2.4GHz (or 5GHz)
I see that they have added a notification saying that "Wi-Fi Mode, Security Mode, Channel Selection, Channel Mode, and Channel Bandwidth are (now) being managed automatically..."
This means that I can no longer change the channels of the XB6 if there are a lot of other users on the same channel (ie: Neighbor's Wi-Fi routers).

Ethernet slow to connect after sleep or reboot-wifi-message.jpg

This recent change from the ISP is suspect because of the timing. I just don't know what other changes in the background accompanied it.

As a result, I called the ISP and I'm changing the XB6 to a different router. (Hitron, which I've had before and although it may be a downgrade, at least I didn't have these problems with it).

I hope this helps others with similar issues, and I'll try to update the results.

Thanks, 7thirty7. Yeah, we have a thread on the Comcast Forums site for this exact same issue. Comcast reps are involved in the conversation and it's been bumped up to their Advance Repair Team. Hope it's resolved soon.
