Can't create Incoming connections Windows 10 - error

    Hi,

I've been trying to create an incoming connection and get an error I can't get around. I have 3 computers running:

    Windows 10 Home
    Version: 20H2
    Build 19042.630 (updated yesterday).

Two of the computers have the error, and one did not. (I successfully created incoming connection on 3rd computer).

I checked service "Routing and Remote Access" and they are all set the same on all three computers.

The error occurs after selecting "Allow Access" in the setup wizard.

Note: you may have to press Alt to see the menu bar in the Network Connections window if you are trying to recreate this error.

Any ideas on how to fix it?

    Here are some screenshots:

See if enabling RPC (RPCSS) and setting it to automatic helps.

Edit .. I couldn't see that it was already on automatic

I guess the main question is what could prevent the “Routing and Remote Access” service to not Start. I tried starting it manually and had the same result, then noticed it would not remain “started”.

Try running the Windows troubleshooter -

Settings > Update & Security > Troubleshoot > Additional troubleshooters > Incoming connections

I had tried the troubleshooters previously without success. Tried again now and there were no issues found.

Good for you! Thanks for the update. You might want to mark this topic SOLVED, so that others with the same problem can fix as you did.

Sorry that came across wrong. There were no issues found by the troubleshooter, but I’m still getting the original described error.

    Anyone have any ideas?

As an update, I worked with MS tech support on this and we tried looking at registry and event logs, nothing helped. In the end they said, "Sorry this type of connection is not supported by Microsoft, you're on your own."

As another option, what do you recommend as a secure method to establish a remote connection to a network?...any 3rd party software people recommend?
