    Wired Ethernet Periodically Loses Connection

    Hi Guys,

I've got a really weird issue with my computer.

    Relevant specs:

    CPU: R9 3900X

    Motherboard: MSI B450 Mortar Max

    Winver: 19041.572

Every day my computers ethernet connection cuts out. The icon in the bottom right goes from Attachment 304577 to Attachment 304578 for roughly about 10 seconds and then recovers.

I have tried the motherboard's ethernet but I've also got a usb ethernet adapter that had the same problem on this machine. I know that other wired devices on my network maintain a connection when this happens.

Any way to track when this happens or where to look to see what the issue may be would be much appreciated!

    Thanks!

I would start by trying a different ethernet cable.

@EdTittel wrote a great post recently that essentially stated if your having an issue with something that is connected to something else with a cable...troubleshoot that first.

    Thanks for your reply!

I have tried this already, sorry I should have mentioned that in the original post. I've tried different cables and ports between the computer and the router.

Your attachments dont show so we cant see them. from a cmd prompt type ipconfig /all when its working and when it drops. How long is the lease time and have you still got an IP when it drops?

I would try the Network troubleshooter -

Settings > Update & Security > Troubleshoot > Additional troubleshooters > Network adapter

    Select Ethernet.

    Reset the network -

    Settings > Network & Internet > Status

Scroll to the bottom and select Reset Network.

I would also take a look at the Windows Event Logs and the router logs for clues as well -

Right-click on the Start icon and select Event Viewer.

    Expand Custom Views.

    Double-click on Administrative Events.

Thanks for your support. Have tried these steps in the past and haven't worked, but just tried them again as per your recommendation and still no luck. I did record the Administrative Events when the network dropped yesterday, and have attached this below. The internet dropped out around 20:43-20:44 and it came back up about 30 seconds later. I'll see if I can find anything in the router logs next time this happens too.

    event log.zip

I've just had this issue occur again and there are no events from the time it happened in the administrative tasks view in the event viewer at the time. Anywhere I can check?
