Maybe this has been asked before. Could not find an answer on this question.
Maybe an utterly weird idea, but .. would it be possible to install a program on OneDrive?
On my desktop PC and laptop I am using the same program.
If installed within OneDrive then I would create a desktop shortcut on my PC and laptop and the program settings would then always be the same.
Also only 1 install is needed, not twice.

At best you might have a fully portable program which is synched by Onedrive. Not one you've installed.

Expanding a bit on dalchina's response, when programs are installed, they often install files in different parts of the Windows file system as well as adding entries to the registry. A portable program is one that is "self-contained" so that the only file it needs is the executable which is why it works being run from OneDrive.
I have a folder on OneDrive named "Portable" that I put portable executables into that I can then access on any computer that I have setup with OneDrive. Works very well.
Depends on the complexity of the program. I have a couple of IT technician executables which just sit on OneDrive until needed then copied over to the local machine. More complex software requiring an installer wont work though.
Thank you all for extra comments. Truly appreciated. Later I was wondering, If applications would allow their settings be saved in a user defined folder (on OneDrive), then that folder can be used by the laptop application as well. But probably this won't work either..
Most programs save their settings in the registry.
Some define workspace- e.g. multimedia programs often create folders in Videos or Pictures - I suppose that gets interesting since those folders may be synched by Onedrive, assuming the same user on different PCs.
