Ethernet connection slow and almost not working

    Hi guys,

I've experienced quite a slow ethernet recently and have no idea why. I tried switching cables and it feels the same. Not sure if its my TP Link AV-500 that's down.

The error message i got was 'Your computer appears to be correctly configured but the device or resource is not responding'

Any help is appreciated and do let me know if you require me to post logs etc. Thank you.

    A couple of things -

    1. Turn the power off on your router, and unplug it. Wait 10 minutes, and then reconnect it.

    2. Download and run the free tool PingPlotter.

    PingPlotter Free | PingPlotter

Test with the following endpoints (these are test servers on DSLReports, so you're not banging on someone's production servers)...

    tester1.ec2.dslreports.com

    tester5.ec2.dslreports.com

Let each test run for a few minutes.

After each test, select File > Save Image.

Attach the .png file to your post

On certain machines turning off "Turn off this device to save power" can help a bit. In the device manager
under networking (Your adapter) properties, Power Management.

also turning off Green and/or energy efficient under advanced
Large Send Offload (iv4 and iv6) to disabled

Thanks both. I unplug the router and replug after 10 mins and did some power management changes and disable some stuff as suggested. Still didn't work it seems.

Just to also inform that Wi fi connection seems fine. It's just that the ethernet is really lagging as compared to wifi, so much that it takes a long time to load something. (wifi is fine though)

I attached the 2 screenshots from PingPlotter.

Looks like your network is saturated...like someone who is running torrent programs.

If that's the case, turn off torrents.

You haven't mentioned what kind of service you have (DSL, cable, fiber), but I would start by unplugging and then replugging your ethernet cables.

If there is no improvement, I would then start with a new ethernet cable from the device (Desktop, laptop) to the router.

If no improvement, then I would check the cabling between the router, and whatever is going to the outside (phone jack, cable, ONT).

Failing that, I would show your PingPlotter traces to your Internet Service Provider.

It sounds like you are using your own router, so you may have to reconnect the ISP provided router for them to test your connection.

It would be worthwhile to run a couple of PingPlotter traces using the ISP router, which could help rule in, or rule out your router.

Thanks! It seems that my ethernet is now working better now after closing torrents. Not exactly sure how it eats up speed given that I wasn't downloading or uploading anything at all. The speed has improved over the past 3 days. Hopefully it'll stay this way. Thank you for your guidance!

Hi guys, my internet speed is getting from bad to worst unfortunately, not only for Ethernet but also wireless.

I've ran out of ideas. Is there anything else which I can do or you would like me to provide for further assessment?
