Network Folder Sharing with and without Password

    Good Day,

I have setup a small Private Network. I will be sharing a few folders, some of them will require username/Password wich will be created as local accounts on the shared folder PC. But i would also like to share another folder with "Everyone" and require no username and password.

    Can this be done? thanks..

Also is there a difference between the Security Permissions granted thru de "Security" Tab and the ones granted thru the Advanced Sharing button inside the Sharing Permissions Button? or are they independent from each other?

Windows networks are all or nothing.
    - If you have password-protected sharing on then the username & password of an admin account on the target computer needs to be entered for the local computer to access the target computer at all [and that username & password can then be automated by setting a checkbox on the dialog - so future re-connections do not need to be repeatedly authorised].
    - If you have password-protected sharing off then no usernames & passwords are required to access the target computer at all.
    - You cannot have password-protected sharing on for some folders yet off for others.

There are permission on the share and then NTFS permission on the folder or file so you could share to everyone but if NTFS is wrong you can't access anything. Windows doesn't like no password as it's a security risk for hacking and malware

    Independendt Security

So I could have very tight permissions on the "Security" Tab...As in Lets say only one user has "Full control"

But if I Share it with "Everyone" and without password security, then easily anyone can come in and Delete everything?

What would be the ideal security permissions If i would like network users to be able to create and Modify documents but not delete them? Lets say i want them to be able to open and Modify "expenses.xls" NOT be able to delete it, and if they were to save their changes to the file, they would be forced to save it under a new filename ..lets say "Expenses2.xls".

Basically what i want to protect is someone deleting files by mistake

Set whatever Sharing Permissions you want -

If you do not want network users to be able to delete files then just give Everyone Share Permissions of Change & Read.

In addition, if you wanted to force them to create a new file, you'd have to set the file itself to Read-only.
    - That would force them to create a modified copy of the file instead.
    - I have never tried this over a network so you would have to experiment to check that it works out as you want.

Different Security Permissions depending on from where you access them

As you can see from the Snap below, depending from how I access the security permissions on the same folder, they are different....One is from Sharing Permissions and the other is from the Security Tab..How do they affect the user experince being so different ?
