    Yes, there are quite a few. A popular one is VNC. There are VNC programs from several companies. There also a number of other options available. Simply use your favorite search engine to search for "Remote Desktop alternatives".

    You mean computers on your network or ones that you connect to remotely?
    - People normally mean computers on their network when they use the term, 'Local Area Computers'.

    What connection do you need?
    - You don't need Remote Desktop or anything else if you are just trying to get access to them.
    - People use Remote Desktop to control other computers not just access them.
