Ethernet does not have a valid IP configuration

Lost the desktop PC nternet access but fortunately still have it on the linked chromebook. Last Windows update was 9th September so not likely to be the cause.

Suggestions to sort this very welcome

    Thanks

Can't find the Windows Version number until the internet connection is restored but it was installed in February this year.

To see the Windows version, press Window key, type winver and press Enter.

When did you lose the internet?

You can copy the following text in red to a .txt file and put it on a flash drive. Plug it into the computer that is having the network problems. Open the .txt file on the flash drive, then follow the directions.

When you get the results, copy postme.txt to the flash drive then take it to your Chromebook and then copy and paste it into a post here.

    Open a Elevated Command Prompt:

Press Win key, type cmd. Right click on cmd.exe at top left and select Run as Administrator.

Copy & Paste the following into the Command Prompt window, exactly as shown, including double quotes:

    cmd /c "ipconfig /all > postme.txt & ping yahoo.com >> postme.txt & reg query "HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Internet Settings" | find /i "proxy" >> postme.txt & notepad postme.txt"

    and press ENTER.

A file will open in Notepad. Please Copy & Paste the contents here. Please don't redact anything as there is nothing in there that is a security breach. Close the Notepad window. The Command Prompt window will also close. Post results in a reply here. Delete the file when done with it.

    @Grandad999,
    Welcome to TenForums.

Are you using WiFi or Ethernet? Give the Windows Networking Troubleshooter a try and also try turning your router off, wait 30 seconds, and turn it back on. Double check Ethernet cable connection if using one by unplugging/re-plugging both ends..

I appear to be having the same problem with my Lenovo desktop. I be browsing for a few minutes and the browser will tell me it can't connect to the site. I ran the Win 10 Diagnostic and it says my ethernet is not properly configured... My Netgear router had a recent firmware update (which might be the culprit), however my local Wi-Fi was unaffected by the firmware update and it functioning as usual. I ran the command Ztrucker recommended and here are the results:

Is that the entire output of ipconfig /all? I need to see all of it please.

Shows you do have an active internet connection:

Pinging yahoo.com [74.6.231.21] with 32 bytes of data:
    Reply from 74.6.231.21: bytes=32 time=54ms TTL=50

    Reply from 74.6.231.21: bytes=32 time=49ms TTL=50

But it's missing the part that describes it. I expected more data, like this:

Apparently the ethernet circuit in the router was failing. So I bought a new router and my problem is now resolved. Thanks for your help.
