dalchina - I don't say anything sharp whatsoever. I provided the build info as you asked and noted I had read the link you provided. If anything, your initial reply was a bit 'off' -- "build not specified it seems" That did/does not bother me.

There is no icon to choose a network when I selected Safe Mode with Networking.

    What am I missing here?
Should it be Just Safe Mode?

    Thanks.

    1) shift + retart
    2) click troubeshoot
    3) click advanced options
    4) click startup settings
    5) click restart
    6) type #5 (Enable safe mode with networking)
Now you should see the password entry in the center of the display.
In the right lower corner there should be Internet, Ease of access, and Power.
    7) click Internet
    8) select the preferred wifi
    9) once it displays connected enter password
(now you should see the desktop)
    10) Launch a browser > speedtest, etc.

    Not for me.

There is just Ease of Access and Power.

It must depend on the computers and their wifi equipment, some will have it and others will not. If you have other computers that have wifi, test them. I have Internet, Ease of access, and Power but no wifi network list.

You can try ctrl + alt + del and lock to see if you have the wifi icon.

    Hmm...

No problem with wired Ethernet which I already know.
All these "solutions" are really inconsistent at best - still trying to find a solution.

@Compumind: on those laptops where there's no wired Ethernet built in, I will use a USB GbE dongle to switch to wired when these kinds of issues present. Usually no trouble getting this to work in Safe Mode with Networking and it trades the time required to figure out WTF is going wrong for about US$30 to buy such a device (for the record, mine is a StarTech USB31000S US$35MSRP, US$28 at Newegg).

    @EdTittel -

    Thanks for your input, Ed.

There is no issue with the hardware here, just a casual need to do some testing with routers and custom firmware.

If you can connect via wired Ethernet, why not WiFi in Safe Mode with Networking?
This point always intrigued me - some users say they can and others cannot.

    Again, why?

Obviously, it's a bit deep but possible to do.
It's a matter of forcing the loading of specific services and drivers.

I asked Sordum (Simplify Your computer Usage) if they would help.
Seems that they are developing a small tool that will incorporate this function.

    Will keep you posted.

I never managed to get my wireless card working in safe-mode. I even bought a USB card that is know to work. It's not Windows because it works for some and not for others. My guess is it's something the motherboard manufacturer built into the board.
