Cant find 1 computer in network

I just reinstalled win 10 v.2004 on my laptop and for a while i could see the laptop on my desktop in the network section of file explorer. while trying to connect to it from my desktop it disapeard and i can not find it. i can ping it and the laptop can ping the desktop. I downloaded netbscanner and ran it on both computer. on the laptop it shows the desktop as Desktop-8u9an71 and 192.168.1.95 and I have no problem accessing the desktop computer.
From my desktop I can not find my laptop in the Network section of File explorer. I can ping it and also netbscanner finds it as desktop-7dm32p7 and 192.168.1.68 but it is nowhere to be found on my desktop. also this one says YES for master Browser the other says no.

How can I get the computer to show up so I can exchange files?
    Thanks for any help

I assume you have already set up one or more shares on the laptop. If so, then you should be able to connect to them from the desktop in File Explorer by using the laptop's IP address. Type \\192.168.1.68 in the address box.

As for making it's name appear in Network, make sure you have the 'Function Discovery Provider Host' and 'Function Discovery Resource Publication' services set to Automatic on all your PCs.

You might have to click on 'restart' in services.

    Hi Bree,
That worked, now it is listed with that address not with the Name of the computer.
If i reboot now, will it find it again? automatically?
    Jacee,
How, where do i do that?

type services.msc in the (left hand side) white search bar ... then open services (shown on the right)... scroll down to

Right click on properties, set to automatic, click apply, okay and click restart

As a workaround until we get the PC's name to appear in Network, type the IP address in File Explorer, then right-click on a share from the laptop and select 'Pin to Quick access'. That will at least give you a convenient way to connect.

To have consistent local network sharing connections.

    1. Assign a fixed IP address for each PC in the Network -> LAN setup in the router
      ex: 192.168.1.3 For PC1, 192.168.1.4 for PC2 etc...
so that every time the PC is turned on, will have the same address assigned to it.
    2. From each PC. Win+R->optionalFeatures and turn on SMB as shown:
Cant find 1 computer in network-2020-08-23_194813.jpg
      Reboot
    3. Win+R ->services.msc
Make sure the following services and Start type are running:
      - DNS Client - Automatic (Trigger Start)
      - Computer Browser - Automatic
      - Function Discovery Provider Host - Automatic
      - Function Discovery Resource Publication - Automatic
      - SSDP Discovery - Automatic

NOTE: if Function Discovery Provider Host or Function Discover Resource Publication has start type: Manual(Trigger Start) or Automatic(Trigger Start). Change them to Automatic. You might have to run sc command from Admin command prompt to remove the Trigger Start option. Ex: sc triggerinfo FDRespub delete or sc triggerinfo FDPhost delete

Once done, all PC's in the network should display.

I thought SMB 1.0 was insecure and should be turned off whenever possible.
    Is that not so?
