Yet Another Windows Media Player Conundrum . . .

    Aloha !

My Moms has a PC with all here photo's on it. When ever she came back from a holiday, she would put the photo's on the PC, sort them out and then watch them with friends on het Sony TV in the livingroom...

You guessed it. This mysteriously stopped working... but not entirely ?

    The setup:
    • Win 10 PC - With photos (Windows 10 Pro 19041.450)
    • Win 10 Laptop
    • Sony TV
    • My own Win 10 laptop in het network.

    The files :
    Code:
    C:\Mijn Documenten\Documenten\Pictures
           			        Other folder
    			        Other folder
    			        Dropbox Folder
    			        Scanned Items
                                    Vacation
    			        Other folder
    			        Other folder

    The weird things :
    1. All the laptops and the TV can 'see' the computer
    2. All the laptops and the TV can see the 'Dropbox' folder and view the pictures
    3. None of the other folders like 'Vacation', 'Scanned items' or 'Other folder' are visible

    It gets even weirder :
It works now and then. Somtimes we can view pictures in ALL folders and sometimes just the above.
The last time we could see ALL the folders, but no content.

I have searched for weeks at and end and frankly I have NO IDEA what is wrong...
    ...Uhmm ? Help ? Please ? Anyone ?

    Cheeeeeeeeeeeeers,

    Jecepede & Mom

    Aloha !

Sorry for the late reply but I literally have to drive to my Moms place and check.

Ok, the computer has a network cable that goes to a sitecom-switch under the table.
From this switch one cable goes to the printer [EDIT: The printer is now disconnected, cable still plugged in]
and another one goes through the wall and directly into the router of the ISP.
From that router, a cable goes to the back of the TV.

I do not think it has anything to do with the connection method. It has to be something in the sharing Windows PC. The laptops which are wireless have the same issue. I actually tried one of the laptops on the wired network, still the same issue.

BTW: Since my first post, all we can see on the TV and laptops are the folders and they are empty.
When I look at the main Windows 10 PC that holds the pictures, all the pictures are there and in the library...

    Cheeeeeeeeeeeeers,

    Jecepede

[EDIT: Yes I powercycled the switch and the ISP-router just to be sure ]

SO the TV is being fed via Ethernet.

What program are you using to send the photos from the computer to the TV?

    Aloha !

The built in Windows Media Player 12 is used for sharing the photos.
On the TV we select the little icon that looks like a network connection icon.
Maybe my memory play stricks on me but I can remember this used to look like the Media player icon ?

TBH I gave up using the Media Player for media streaming a long time ago. I turned off media streaming shortly after upgrading from Win7 to Win10.

These days I don't browse for photos or video from my TV, instead on the PC I select the media (a folder of photos or an .mp4) right-click on it and select 'Cast to device' to send it to the TV.

Uhmm yeah. That would be fine for me, but my Mom is 75+ years of age. The TV is in the livingroom
on ground floor and the PC on the first floor. I do not want her to climb the steep stairs unnecessary.

Plus like I said earlier, it has allways worked under Windows 10... it just stopped working out of the blue.
I am 100% positive it is some setting that I have overlooked. Dunno which one though
