    Network Addresses

I have a strange problem with my network. I have a VPN that directs all traffic from browsers and so on through the VPN. Also on the network I have a number of applications that access local items. Lets take two - a NAS and a security camera. Both of which can be accessed via a browser. The NAS is 192.168.1.189:5000. The camera web page is 192.168.1.10
When I enter the NAS address in to the browser, it works exactly as you expect it to. But the camera does not. The camera only responds if the VPN is disconnected. Why? I fail to understand the difference between the NAS and the camera? Is this perhaps that windows knows the NAS is local but doesn't know the camera is? I'm confused!!

Sounds like it is trying to route the traffic for the camera over the VPN when it is Enabled. Do you know what subnet used to define the interesting traffic (the traffic that gets routed over the VPN)?

Comparing the IP's you have given my guess is that the subnet for traffic to be routed over the VPN is potentially as large as a /25 which would explain why the camera traffic gets routed over the VPN whereas the NAS doesn't since its IP is outside of the /25 subnet. Reads as if you have more devices as well so if you add some more addresses in and if they work or otherwise when the VPN is Active then I can get a better idea what size the subnet used to route traffic over the VPN actually is. It could be as small as a /28 but I can't say with any degree of accuracy with the information I currently have.

Lastly if you can change the IP the camera gets assigned that may resolve the issue - anything in the range 192.168.1.129 - 192.168.1.254 would avoid the /25 for sure.

I have no idea what you just said, lol. However, set it to what you suggested and it worked so YAY! Thank you. That has driven me nuts for ages.

Sorry about that - it's what I do for a living so the question just bought out the geek in me.

Glad it's sorted - can you mark it as solved?
