Mapping and saving a path to network drives

Windows ver. 1909

I use a program called MyFolders. It creates a Right click menu option in File Explorer that then allows you to map a path to and save that mapped path to any external drive or other computer on your network. It appears this program has some “fatal” flaws that I have come across. I am wondering if there are any other programs that will allow you to map and save a path like MyFolders does and if you would recommend it?

Thank you but that is not exactly what I want to do. MyFolders works well to a point then it causes problems for me.

Changd s: to the drive letter you want to use then simply save it in notepad as a .cmd file ie map .cmd job done copy it to any pc

If you need to pass password use

net use s: \\pcname\sharename /user:HTG password

Sorry I didn't quote this in my last post. I am still learning how to use this site. Again, thanks but I would prefer something other than the CMD prompt because I do have so many different folders I copy files to on a daily basis. not sure how the Notepad would work in those instances.

What are the "fatal flaws"? MyFolders seems to be actively supported. What version do you have? Is it the latest one: 5.0.3.76 (December 1 2019)?

As an alternative, try adding a Network Location in File Explorer's This PC. This is a built in feature so no 3rd-party software is required. That's what I use.

The network location is just a shortcut. You can copy it and paste it (or move it) to anywhere you like such as to your Desktop, an external drive or another computer.

I am not sure what version I have but Control Panel's Programs and features says Version 4 so that is probably what I have. I may try on one of my other computers downloading and installing the version you mention here and see if my shortcuts stay in tact.

I have way too many folder shortcuts I need to use to try using Network Location as you mentioned above. I have around 100 shortcuts that MyFolders creates and maintains. And therein may be the origin of what problems I think MyFolders may have caused me. I do not want to make accusations I cannot actually prove. First let me say I think MyFolders is a great program but I believe it may have caused me many headaches and the only thing I have to back this up is that I deleted about 10 of MyFolders' shortcut my problem that caused me headaches disappeared. So I am planning on continuing to use MyFolders, unless something else comes along that is better, but I have established limitations as to the amount of shortcuts I can allow it to create.

Thank you for your reply and the information about a newer version of MyFolders. As I mentioned, I am going to test it out very soon.

Their version history says that version 4 was published in 2013 and an update in 2014. Both were from before Windows 10 was launched, so there's a good chance the latest version will work better in W10.

Thank you. I just downloaded and tested it on another computer and it seem fine.

Well I have my headache back. I loaded the newer version of MyFolders and my headache returned. The headache is that any time I right click on any file that MS Office 365 creates the the "Open," "New," and "Print" options are missing. The cause of this seemed to be an Office update but at the same time MYFolders would no longer open in the "Settings" mode. Yesterday I found a way around opening MyFolders "Settings" option and deleted many shortcuts that I no longer needed and sure enough my right click "Open," "New," and "Print" options were once again there. But, as I said after today's installation of MyFolders and then the computer restore being run they are missing again.

Again I am not 100% positive but I am going to try to state what has happened and what I believe.

I lost the "Open, New, and Print" right click options on any program that was created with Office. MS techs ran a clean uninstalled and then reinstalled Office 365 and the problem was still there. That is my headache.

When I started this thread I had gotten the "Open, New, and Print" right click options back and here is how I did it.

I had a lot of saved paths in MyFolders. MyFolders is a right click option on any file you choose to right click on. MyFolders develops a problem of its own and I believe that problem occurs when, like mine, there are TOO many saved shortcuts stored in it. MyFolders problem is that you can no longer get its "Settings" option to open. You can click on it but it is just dead in the water and does absolutely nothing. You need that "Settings" option for a few reasons like aligning shortcuts as you wish, add separators, and to delete existing shortcuts. There may be more uses for it but that is how I use it.

Anyway, I had a need to delete 9 shortcuts and 8 separators. Since I couldn't get MyFolders' "Settings" to open I couldn't delete those items. I accidentally found a method to get "Settings" to open and that was by choosing it when I had chosen and right clicked on 3 Outlook messages I had stored outside of Outlook in a separate folder on my computer. Once I was able to delete those 17 items mentioned above my right click options on an Office file of "Open, New, and Print" reappeared.

However, when I tried updating to the newer version of MyFolders mentioned above it took away the "Open, New, and Print" options once again. Not sure why but was willing to delete a few more of MyFolders shortcuts but was not able to get MyFolders to open its "Settings" no matter what I did. So after much fooling around I managed to run a restore, trick version 4 to open MyFolders' "Settings" and once again deleted those 17 items and my "Open, New, and Print" reappeared again

So here is my theory and would welcome comments for against it.

Since I managed to get the "Open, New, and Print" options back twice using the same procedures I am thinking that all my many shortcuts were taking up room or space that the right click on a file needed to display the "Open, New, and Print" commands. Also, I believe MyFolders, probably unintentionally, alerts one to the fact you have used to many shortcuts by not allowing its "Settings" option to open. Had I not stumbled on a way to open the "Settings" option in version 4, I would still not have those "Open, New, and Print" choices available to me, I believe.

In addition to comments on my theory I am curious where MyFolders is actively supported. I have tried searching the NET for that support and came up empty. I have a post at another site on this same subject and it is the site where I had to download MyFolders form. There doesn't seem to be support there or, at least I cannot find it.
