Accounting application struggles in Windows 10 (Mapped Network Drive)

What is the speed and duplex status of your server computer?
Are the new computers connected directly to your router or are there any intervening hubs or switches?

Server is set to "Auto Negotiation" and speed is 1.0 Gbps.

All computers in the office (both "fast" and "slow" save ones) are connected to Mikrotik CRS326-24G-2S+RM.

The "slow" transfer rate you're experiencing is a symptom of full-duplex / half-duplex mismatch. Very old or damaged Ethernet cables, including cables with poor quality terminations, can force half-duplex operation. Try using a different cable, preferably a new cat 6.

But... transfer rate is perfect. I can share file from server-client or client-server at full speed (100 MB/s).

Save in this application is slow, but transfer rate in Explorer is fast.

.MDB database is <100 MB.

Here's a crazy idea. You could keep WIndows 10 on the PCs, get VMWare Workstation Player (free) and setup a Windows 7 or XP Virtual Machine - whatever works best, then access your accounting software using your Win7/XP Virtual Machine (VM) running inside your Windows 10 PCs which you get to keep as they are- new and shiny.

I know a bit loopy but I was trying to figure out how to "let you have your cake and eat it to" with your new PCs.

Done something similar when I had an old server's web based management card that could only be successfully accessed by an ooooold version of Internet Explorer that wouldn't run on a modern OS.

Thank you, I though about this already, but still haven't decided to go for it.

Yep!

Oh... but something important I have forgot to emphasise again :)

My latest finding and solution suggests that problem is is new hardware, not software (OS).

I have old Windows 8.1 machines that work great. New one that I borrowed for test with Windows 8.1 works slow.

Some other users of this program confirmed basically the same thing - this program works slow on a computers with newer hardware. I am not sure what bothers it exactly, maybe processor?

I have tested with various LAN cards and WLAN cards, it does not help.

Hm. CPUs have only gotten faster both single and multi-threaded. I'm betting it's a software compatibility issue with modern Windows to an old deprecated Access DB & front-end application.

Remember, it will only take you 30m or so to set up a Win7 or XP VM on your Win10 machine to try it out.

Hy. I run across this thread researching the same issue and I am wondering has the issue been resolved? More and more of my clients using the said program are having the same issue. I read all the suggestions and found that I have tried all the mentioned solutions and nothing helped. For anyone willing to help, in short, it is about an accounting program in Croatia that uses access database. Database is located on a PC in the same folder as the aplication itself. The way other clients use it over network is by mapping the entire folder of the program and running the aplication exe file from mapped drive. It has been that way for years and it worked for most of the time. With reacent Windows 10 updates an issue has arrised where saving a change in application on any of the client PC-s takes several minutes where it used to take a few seconds. What fixed the issue prior to the last updates was uninstalling the NIC drivers that were installed trough Windows updates and installing realtek drivers for NIC-s. Now that does not work also. There is some comunication issue that afects just the accounting program and I can't figure out what it is. Any help would be much appreciated.
