Cannot Connect To Shared Folder On Laptop | Prompting For Credentials

I have been trying to connect to a shared folder on my laptop, but Network Credentials keeps prompting for my username and password no matter what computer I try to connect to it from.

All my Windows 10 computers are logged on using the same Microsoft account, but for some reason I cannot access the laptop anymore.

I used to have the laptop connected via Ethernet, but I have recently switched over to Wi-Fi to make way for another desktop computer. Could that be a reason?

The way I have our network set up is all systems have a local account using the same user id and password, for each user that needs access to that system.

Permissions are then set for what each user needs on each system.

You can then share folders by user without providing credentials each time.

Also, on each system -

In Network and Sharing Center -

Private profile -

Turn on Network Discovery
Turn on File and Printer Sharing

Guest or Public -

Everything turned off

All networks -

Turn off Public Folder Sharing
Turn on 128-bit Encryption
Turn on Password Protected Sharing

Try this. From one of your other computers, go to file manager and type \\laptopname in the address bar. Wait about 30 seconds or so and the laptop's network shares should show up in file manager.

Sometimes this works, sometimes not.

Hi Jack. I can already see the laptop from all my computers.
It just won't accept the username and password that I've been using forever.

Hi ONG.

I already have the same logon. They are not local accounts. I prefer the Microsoft accounts as they give you more functionality.
I always save network credentials, so I never have to add them again.
But something has gone wrong with accessing my laptop.
I can see it from my other computers, I am just being denied access due to a Network Credentials username and password issue.

Try my approach. It's a workaround and It usually works for me when I can see the other computer but I'm denied access to network shares.
