Am using Chrome on desktop via ethernet and now suddenly some sites display this error? Tested a problem site in Edge and same error appears?
I was using a VPN last night, but I have since disabled it.
The sites in question were working fine last night?
I went into services.msc > DNS client, but the 'restart' was greyed out?
I have never seen this before? Why is it only some sites and not others?
Can someone help please?
Quite possible the VPN has changed DNS settings for your ethernet adapter.
Check ... right-click Network icon in SysTray > Open network and internet settings > on the Network status page, click link Network and Sharing Centre > click link Change adapter settings > right-click on Ethernet icon > Properties > Internet Protocol Version 4 (IPv4) > Properties > What are the DNS settings ? If not set as such , change back to Obtain DNS automatically

I went into Network connections and there is a red X next to Ethernet? Guess I am using 'Local Area Connection'?
Is that the correct setting?
Properties for both are marked as 'Obtain DNS automatically'.
Interestingly, I restarted my modem then my PC this morning and went to the problem websites. The problem re-appeared.
I kept surfing the web and within a few minutes the problem websites suddenly worked?

Looks like you are using Local Area Connection "Network 5" as the wired connection.
The error is a known issue on Chrome.
Try resetting Winsock and the TCP/IP stack.
Winsock -
In an elevated (Run as administrator) Command prompt, copy and paste netsh winsock reset and press Enter.
TCP/IP stack -
Copy and paste netsh interface ipv4 reset and press Enter.
If you use IPv6, copy and paste netsh interface ipv6 reset and press Enter.
Then copy and paste ipconfig /flushdns and press Enter.
Restart your computer.
