WiFi keeps dropping out (on laptop only)

Long story as short as possible I have a Dell Inspiron running windows 10 that is only a few years old and for about 2-3 weeks now it has been dropping my wifi connection frequently even though the connection is great. Typically when this would ever happen (rarely) it connects back within seconds to a minute of disconnecting.. Now I'm having to go back to the wifi icon and disconnect and reconnect to get it back on(even though it's set to automatically connect). I am at my wits end! I've tried every single tutorial on how to fix wifi issues, I've updated drivers, I've deleted the network and reinstalled everything... I'm not sure what to do anymore and it's driving me nuts! Every other device in the house is running smoothly . Any help would be GREATLY appreciated. Thanks!

The adjustments are on your router.

Before making any changes, write down or screenshot your current settings.

If you are using auto channel select, try using channel 1, 6, or 11 for 2.4 Ghz, and 153 for 5 Ghz.

Using a WiFi analyzer can show you who is using what channels in your area, your signal strength, and your signal-to-noise ratio (SNR)...

Wireless Security should be using WPA2-Personal with AES encryption.

Select NG-Mixed for 2.4 Ghz and AC/N-Mixed for 5 Ghz if it's available on your router.

WMM should be turned on for both bands, and try the Beacon Interval at 100 and RTS Threshold at 2346.

Reboot the router and test your wireless connections.

It could be that you need extenders, or a more modern device such as an AC router.

On your computer, check that the network adapter is not set to turn off in Power Managment.

The problem seems to be worse since my ISP installed their router/modem combo. I have since purchased a nighthawk router but my ISP says I am required to use their modem for rebooting issues or something... I called them today and they are supposed to swing by some time tomorrow. I was just wondering if it's an issue with my laptop or with the internet itself. I'm just impatient and wanted peoples opinions!

I would check your router config, your NIC settings, and use a WiFi analyzer.

I know how to access the NIC settings but not sure what I would need to change them to if anything. Maybe I'll see if tomorrow is any better after the new installations. I guess I'm just confused why I'm having to disconnect and then reconnect before having internet connection again.. That doesn't make any sense

As mentioned above, check that the network adapter is not set to turn off in Power Managment.

Right-click > Properties > Configure > Power Management

If your signal is dropping, it could be interference, the channel is being heavily used in you area, etc.

That's why I suggested the steps to check.

I would also check the router logs, and the Windows Event Logs for clues.

That's how you start finding out.

Okay so I just was about to type that I've done that and rechecked to make sure the save power option wasn't checked... and it was checked again. Any idea why it would be doing that itself? I've had to uncheck that box at least 5 times now

Every time you do a network reset, or re-install the adapter, it gets checked.
