    Why so many media servers

Every so often I get this display that seems to repeat each media server multiple times. How do I fix this display to keep things simple?

If it matters, I have a Netgear Nighthawk wireless router.

This issue was present in early versions of windows 10. Simply delete them.

So I did. One at a time, unfortunately. But at least they are gone (for now ...)

I have the same problem with the OP. I have a netgear nighthawk router too.

I have something like 176 genie media servers. I deleted a few of them about 20 from 189, more got added everytime i loaded the genie software.

deleting them doesn't address the issue if its re-occurring.

is there some easier way to bulk delete the genie media serve files instead of doing it one at a time?

Still happens in current (and insider preview) versions of windows -- not sure why these are there or how these are created but as previous poster says just delete them.

looks like I got it fixed. the netgear media devices is not showing up. and they are not propagating.

apparently theres a few things that need to be done.

    1. go to the nighthawk router login 192.168.1.1
    2. go to the advance tab
    3. go to the USB function
    4. go to the readyshare storage section
    5. go to the media server tab
    6. uncheck DNLA media server. close router page

    7. load the genie software
    8. go to my media
    9. go to the settings tab
    10. turn off any media service listed there and uncheck the settings. if you see a square blue box, click on it. it will kill any media services.
    11. close genie

    12. on windows 10, go to network and sharing center
    13. go to advanced sharing settings
    14. turn off network discovery on both private and public.
    15. return to network and sharing center
    16. goto media streaming options
    17. delete any media servers listed
    18. close the center.

    19. goto this website
    20. Tools for Windows
    21. download Device Cleanup Tool V1.0 - removes non-present devices from the Windows device management
    22. install it, run it, and bulk delete the media servers.

    23. reboot your pc

    24. on windows 10, go to network and sharing center
    25. go to advanced sharing settings
    26. turn off network discovery on both private and public.
    27. close center

run genie and go to device folder to see if the media device reappear. if they do, just delete them.

    Hi there

    1) what USB function -- none of these devices are connected to my computers via USB !!!! I have this function disabled.

The amazon fire TV boxes are connected via LAN anyway as is SKY "Q" box etc.

    2) What "Readyshare" thing !!

    3) I shouldn't have to download a 3rd party tool if Windows were doing its job properly.

If you turn off network discovery then that probably will cause mega hassle to anbody you have using your wifi / LAN as well as problems for you if you want to access data (or send data) from / to any NAS servers / other computers.

    Cheers

#26 is a mistake. that should be network discovery turned on.

follow up on this. it did not work. 3 media devices propagated.

    I dunno what I'm missing.

if this continues, i'm taking the genie software off.
