[Solved] Access denied or lack permission on a private network

My home network consists of one laptop and one desktop. Same local passwords on both, and are registered with the same MS live account.

There are no restrictions, and mutual access is without passwords.

The laptop is version 2004 and this works well and the desktop is still 1909 and cannot be upgraded yet, but this issue existed when both Windows were version 1909.

From Desktop to laptop, the shares are visible but I have no permission.

From Laptop to desktop, I have no authority to access the desktop at all. The shares are blocked.

On both machines, ownership is the Administrators. SYSTEM, Administrators and ineuw are the only accounts listed, all with Full control.

The hardware and software is specified in my signature.

    Not sure what
and mutual access is without passwords.
    means.. so could be irrelevant..

Hi. Disabling the network password requirement was done before I posted, but this did not change the situation. However, the network issue became irrelevant because version 2004 update disabled Start so there is no access to any apps. So now, I must find a way to restore v1909 or reinstall from the USB again.

P.S: There is a complete v1909 mirror backup saved on the desktop computer, which can only be restored through the network. Talk about a tailless dog chasing its tail.

    2004 update disabled Start
    - that's what I call a good start... - I guess you mean clicking the start button does nothing- how about Win key + SHIFT?

You could install Open shell.. and you could work around this using the search bar or Win key + S to find and launch programs.

Given all the threads on dodgy networking issues, maybe relying on your network networking is a tad too optimistic..

Just see the comments after this for example- some of which reflect something similar to your issue:

Old thread, but basically removed everything networked and set up again:

Thanks for the link. Nothing works, so I am resetting it to the previous version which in itself was a fresh install without apps. The laptop was for mobility, which is irrelevant under the general circumstances. It's almost like being all dressed up and nowhere to go.

Well, I was just reading travel to mainland Italy and Greece from the 15th will be possible without quarantine.. except that at present I'd face 14 days quarantine returning to the UK. However, the airlines are jumping up and down about that of course, not to mention tourism places. But tourists wouldn't have a lot of fun travelling around the UK right now.

I keep wondering about all the foreign university students who pay a lot to come here..

And this PC is one I bought for travelling!

It seems that I was luckier, this laptop was a family gift to get me going.
Also think that foreign students in Canada may be better off staying and looked after here, unless they prefer to go home. It seems that it's less secure in places where most of the students are from, and as foreign students they have medical coverage here.

Are you trying to access folders in the users profile ie desktop etc as these have special NTFS permission set and even on the pc as another user its hard to access some of these

@ Samuria, not at all. I never use those folders and Windows lets me to delete them in v1909.

    - presumably the shared folders... is there a particular message? Screenshot?

Is this a new configuration, or was networking previously working?
