LAN and WiFi won't coexist on my Lenovo K450

Problem has been around since some update in the 1909 build stream. I just updated to 2004 and it's still there.

If I have a working LAN connection and enabled my WiFi and connect or don't to my router, the LAN works works fine. At some pint overnight the LAN connection disappears and the WiFi connection (set to auto connect) is the only active connection if it was active or it activates and I then can't make the LAN connection work any more. I have to reboot, then LAN works and WiFi is not active.

For now, I've removed the Wifi by forgetting the connection so it's not set to auto-activate.

Any suggestions on how to fix this? The upgrade to 2004 did not resolve the problem.

I initially thought there was a conflict with Hyper-V so I uninstalled it but that made no difference (which I'm glad to see).

Note: Both LAN and WiFi work fine when I initially activate them. It's only overnight sometime that the problem occurs.

Note2: What happened to Wireless Zero Configuration service? I don't see it in Services anymore.

Has the latest available driver from Realtek (installed today, made no difference).
I've also run the troubleshooter several times with no success.

I'm wondering if this is self-inflicted? I was playing with Windows 10 Insiders can now test DNS over HTTPS and I wonder if I changed something I shouldn't have? I'm currently using these CloudFlare servers for my DNS: 1.1.1.1 and 1.1.0.0. I don't see how that can cause a loss of LAN connection. No internet connectivity I can see but no LAN connection at all? I guess I'll change them back to OpenDNS or Google DNS and see what that does.

Interesting. I deleted the Realtek PCIe GbE Family Controller from Device Manager and checked the box to uninstall drivers as well. Rebooted and now everything is working. What is strange is the name of the LAN is Ztruk_2.4G, the same as my WiFi 2.4Ghz band.

Tried to rename it using netsh interface set interface name="Ztruk_2.4G" newname="Local Area Connection" but that doesn't work.



But at the moment LAN is working and WiFi has not auto-connected yet.

My network will also be named my wireless network if I connect that way first, Windows glitch.


Windows networking, got to love it. Something must have cleared when you deleted device.

This always works: Change keyword ProfileName in

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\NetworkList\Profiles\{E3EA26CD-CD21-4624-8C83-3BCB1B546988}

This allowed me to change my LAN connection to Local Area Connection and leave my WiFi as Ztruk2.4G.

Still problems if I enable WiFi. Almost immediately the LAN connection goes away. Has to disable WiFi and forget it to get LAN working again. I think a Clean Install is in the works soon.

Can you Macrium back to a point where things were working?

Not sure but probably not as I don't remember exactly when it started. It would have been while I had 1909 installed and my backups only go back to 05/11.

I think I'm going to do a Clean Install of 2004 tomorrow and see how that goes. If no better I'll clean install 1909 and see how that is. It should work as it did work when I initially clean installed it and for quite awhile after with quite a few updates.

I'll definitely take a full Macrium backup before so I can get back to where I am now though.


Hmmmm, might be worth trying the 05/11 backup just to see how it behaves. New full backup first though.

Nothing made a difference. Last time, after restoring the latest Macrium backup which got me back to 2004, I tried resetting my TP-Link router (power off/wait/on and that fixed the problem for over two hours so far. I'm leaning toward the router being the cause of all the LAN/WiFI problems. I let it run today, overnight and see how it goes but I believe I'll buy a new router. I really like the TP-Link I have now (Archer C1200) so will probably go with a new(er) one.
