Win10 repeatedly zeroes out lan adapter settings

For about a month now, this laptop repeatedly zeroes out lan adapter connection settings, requiring that I re-enter the values in the ethernet adapter applet, or (more conveniently) run netsh interface ipv4 set address etc ...

Often but not always the zeroing out occurs during a period of inactivity requiring re-login.

No recent changes to the hardware or the OS.

Anybody have an idea how to fix this?

What adapter and connection do you use? How do you set up the connection?

The adapter is an Asix USB 3.0 Ethernet adapter (the Toshiba 2016 laptop's original Ethernet adapter died in 2018). Set up at that time by letting Windows find it. Windows says the driver software is current. No recent change in the adapter, the settings or the LAN.

My adapter has no applet. I have just switched from the onboard adapter to my USB adapter on a PPPoE connection. I just inserted the adapter and did not have to do any settings or enter any values, and I can access the Internet now. So, what settings/values are you referring to? What connection are you using?

By applet I mean the ethernet adapter dialog. The machine needs a static IP address, therefore desired machine and gateway ips must be supplied. The problem, again, is that Windows 10 reoeatedly blanks them out.

Run the following in Command Prompt and post the results.

    ipconfig /all

Next time the settings go blank, I will.

Or more conveniently, use a CMD script file to run everything automatically. Do you run something like the following?

netsh interface ip set address name="Ethernet0" static 10.1.2.220 255.255.255.0 10.1.2.1
netsh interface ip set dns name="Ethernet0" static 10.1.2.1
netsh interface ip add dns name="Ethernet0" 8.8.8.8 index=2

Right-click on the Start button-->Windows PowerShell (Admin). Run the following command:
