Startup order of a Network

I have my wireless network setup for over 6 years and it has worked just fine for all this time.

Except for this awkward problem. the network consist of two machines, a desktop running W10 Home build 1909 and a laptop W10 Pro build 1909. If I turn on the desktop first and then the laptop neither machine sees the other. However, If I turn on the laptop first and then the desktop both machines communicate just fine. In the first case, desktop, first I have to do a cold restart start of the desktop to get them to work together. After 6 years I have finally gotten tired of this behaviour.

I didn't just fall off the turnip truck but have exhausted my knowledge of networks and need some help in fixing the problem.

Could it be that pro machines and home machined don't like to live together on a network?

Windows does look for pcs on the network it asks the master browser for a list so if the master browser comes on line first it has a list of pcs that were there before hence it works if the other còmes on first it wont be abĺe to find mb a good length of time it would take over if there no others. By default the highest pc is mb ie pro over home

Thank you for your reply. I didn't understand all of it but it sure got me looking in the right places to find out about the Master Browser. As a result I was able to resolve the problem.

Another reason not to use workgroups!

The Desktop was W10 Home and the other was pro. Switching the home to pro (something I had been wanting to do for ages) cleared the problem up. Not elegant but effective.
