Taskbar Internet Icon in Airplane Mode

Taskbar Internet Icon in Airplane Mode-net2.jpg

I'm seeing something I never seen before. When I left click on the Internet Icon that looks like a computer on my task bar there are words and an icon I never seen before and not sure how to remove. See above image.

I never seen the words "Change settings, such as making a connection metered" and below those words is the airplane icon I never seen before.

Is there a way to remove the words and the airplane icon? I would think if I was in some kind of airplane mode, my internet connection would be slower. And as far the connected metered words, I checked my setting and metering is turned off.

Confusing! Thoughts and help would be appreciated.

Using Windows 10. Also my computer/internet is not connected by wifi. I have a modem that plugs into router and an ethernet cable that goes from router to my computer

Below is my meter settings in windows 10. It is turned off.

    Steve,

Windows has decided to offer you the opportunity to jump straight to Network & internet settings [the bit about metered is just by way of explanation about those settings] or to operate the Airplane mode control from where you are.

The airplane mode icon is grey to indicate that it is not engaged and, in fact, not operable {because you have no wifi/bluetooth to turn off anyway} - if it was engaged then you would be disconnected from all wifi & bluetooth, not just forced to go slower. Ethernet connections tend to be impracticable during flights as well.

Like many of Windows' bright ideas, it is not always entirely welcome. You do not have to use those controls if you do not want to but they are not doing you any harm.

I have not seen anybody report a method of hiding those items though.

That Flight Mode goes back about 6 years to Windows 8.1 if I remember correctly.

The method of editing Quick Action buttons has changed during Windows 10, you can only Edit the ones appearing at the bottom of the Notification Panel. Right click and Edit Quick Actions.

The ones in the Network settings seem to be fixed.

Flight Mode On switches Off WiFi and Bluetooth. So it is rather a confusing option. I never use it, just using the WiFi and Bluetooth On/Off separately.

Helmut - The OP is not referring to Quick actions or any other part of Notifications. Denis
