WiFi Network speed and internet speed question

Okay I don't understand this

I have a 1gb network modem/router thru CenturyLink and what I don't understand is on all my local networking I get the 1gig speed. On my wired machines when I access the internet I actually get 900mb download/upload speeds, but when I use my wireless (laptop) the most I can get is 240mb speeds.

Now before you jump on me I use a Netgear AC6200 apapter which is an AC adapter, when talking to my local machines I indeed get the 1gigabit speed but yet I can only get 240mb over the internet, I don't understand why this is.

I don't know if this is relevant to your problem but, it seems that CenturyLink only guarantees gigabit speed through a wired connection. You may want to contact CenturyLink for clarification.

That is expected with such a Wireless adapter.
The A6200 is USB 2.0, limiting speed to a theoretical max of 480 Mbs.
240 Mbs is probably about right, real world.
The newer models have a USB 3.0 interface.
