BT Home Hub

Might not be the right place to ask, but can anyone tell me how to assign a printer to the 2.4 band on a BT home hub 6?

Are you trying to get the printer to specifically use 2.4GHz rather than 5GHz, or are you just trying to get it to connect in the first place?

To connect a printer to your Hub 6 the controls are on the printer itself. You'll need to select the SSID of your hub and provide the WiFi password (or use the WPS button on the hub). There may, depending on the make/model of printer, be a control for which band to use. You'd need to check its manual.

If you already have the printer connected but want to tie it to use the 2.4GHz band only, then there is no such control for individual devices on the Hub 6. What you could do is separate the 2.4GHz and 5Ghz bands so they each have a different SSID. That way when you connect ANY device to the WiFi you can choose which band to use by connecting to the appropriate SSID. This would however prevent your PC and other devices from automatically switching bands when signal strength is poor on one (ie, switching to 2.4GHz when out of range for 5GHz).



Edit: My Epson ET-4750 only has 2.4GHz WiFi capabilities anyway, so it can only connect on that band.

You can go to the Hub's web page and select Home > Advanced settings > My network. You will need to provide the admin password. There you can click on any device, including your printer, and set the DHCP to always use this IP address.



You may also be able to set the printer itself to use a static address rather than use DHCP (as you can on a PC) but that depends on whether your printer has that option. Again, you'd need to check its manual. Setting DHCP to always use the same IP address will work for any printer.

You're welcome. BTW, once you have set the DHCP to always use this IP address you can then edit the IP address it will assign.
