Request for suggestion to better manage small 2 PC network

I have 2 PCs running WIN 10 Home version (version 10.0.18362 Build 18362- 64 bit). Also, on the recommendation of my local cable company repair man, I got a NETGEAR Nighthawk 1750 router for the purpose of file sharing and the ability for both PCs to maximize the speed of my cable modem.

My current issue is that I have a Microsoft Assure account and had them set up both PCs so that ALL drives can share ALL files back and forth. However, Microsoft has issued a couple of updates and there have been other reasons as well that I needed to re-start my PCs. However, when I did that, the file sharing of each PCs drives were no longer connected.

So, I am totally new to doing any kind of network setup myself and am not totally familiar with all the terminology of networking. I do know the concept of what is needed.

I am interested to see if someone can suggest software that I can get that will help me better manage the network to ensure a stable connection and re-connection when the need to re-start either PC comes up.

    Ideas?

If your Microsoft Assure software support subscription is still current then let MS sort it out if it was Windows Updates that broke the file sharing. That's what you're paying it for.

I 'get' that you probably used the 'One-time Premium help' for the initial file sharing setup but subsequent updating and rebooting Windows are 'normal' events and shouldn't break file sharing.

    Or am I missing something?

Yes, I could call MS Assure again, but, what happens the next time I have to restart one of my PCs ?
So, this really is not about them.

Once again, I want a software to install that ensures that the file sharing that I set up gets re-established every single time I need to restart either of my PCs, or, if I decide to turn one of them off, then, when I turn it back on, then this software will ensure that all the file sharing settings get properly established.

Sorry but I disagree. Restarting is a normal event and the OS (which you are paying its manufacturer to support) IS the software that should re-establish file sharing, not break it.

However, our opinions appear to differ so I'll duck out and let others chime in. I hope you get it sorted.

Ric, just hold on a second! I think you have got the impression that I am being hard nosed about my thoughts about MS Assurance's involvement. I'm not.....

But, never mind... I'm not going to fight over semantics of how I say things for fear of being totally misunderstood ...........

I've had similar experiences with MS upgrades "messing" with my LAN. In some cases the, the upgrade changed the start-up procedure for one or more Settings from "automatic" to "manual."

I don't believe that the software you desire exists. Your best bet is to read and follow this tutorial Share Files and Folders Over a Network in Windows 10.

The other thing you might try is to start both of your computers. Make sure that each computer can access the internet and make sure that each computer cannot enter sleep mode. Then, just sit and wait for a half hour or so while the computers sort out which will be the master browser.
