How difficult is it to set up video conferencing?

I would expect your lawyer would have something they use for video conferencing already. So, they would send you a link, you would click on it and you would join into their meeting. It's usually very straight forward.

I have a MS account but it'll have to be reset, the last time I used it was back in '15 I did notice I could use my google account. Yes, testing would be wise I have seen some interesting backgrounds.

The receptionist did mention video calls are used and I think I'll wait to find out which one, it'd probably be best if both participants are using the same service. That would be nice to click on a link to join the conversation.

Skype has a 30day trial then it's pay per month. Zoom and Webex are free but with a 40" limit for Zoom and unlimited for Webex, the only drawbacks are Zoom is 40" and the receptionist said it'd be about an hour for the meeting and it looks that with Webex you need to use a separate phone for call-in audio, maybe I'm reading that wrong, see the link and you'll see it under the free plan. I don't know, that seems to be a major drawback if you have to use a separate phone to hear audio.

Question for now; How do these plans work, who gets charged the person that initiates the call or does both the caller and callee get charged?

Thanks Andre I finally found It’s free to use Skype on skype's about page and What is background blur in Skype? but I have to check if this laptop processor supports Advanced Vector Extensions 2 (AVX2) for the blur.

I need to run coreinfo to check for avx2 and it runs but goes by in a blur then quits.
I've tried every way I know to send the output to a .txt file on the desktop but nothing I tried works, I'm tired and I'll pick this up in the morning.

For anybody else using SKYPE -- don't bother with the wretched one in the store (UWL version) but go for the full desktop version -- this can be downloaded directly from the Internet ---. You will need an Ms account - but you can create a new one for skype. Free for home users -- not sure about the outlook integration bit --I think that's more "Skype for business".

For Home use it works fine and is free (use internet not phone) -- We've already had some "Virtual Pub meets" with colleagues -- drinking beer and partying from Home -- the video conferencing piece works fine.

If you do this type of stuff other people who don't have Windows can still install skypeforlinux on Linux -- identical set up to the windows version so you can communicate easily with people using most common OS's --not everybody has to be on Windows.




Test of course webcam and mike's working OK -- there's a built in test facility in skype for this. Linux users with recent kernels will find webcam software is built in for pretty well most webcams -- install Cheese to test it. Windows users will probably have a built in web cam program --certainly if using a laptop.

I haven't yet but plan on D/L'ing any of the three choices from their respective websites, I tend to stay away from any online stores. As an example Skype for Desktops / windows version.

I could go for a pub meet unfortunately I'm all out of the bubbly and because of covid19 the PA governor shut down all distributors, beer and liquor you can't even order online and have it shipped to your home.

I'll be sure to test.
