    Devolo / windows 10 problem

    Hi Mike,
    I have a problem with Devolo 1200+wifi / Windows 10.
I have connected to Devolo 1200+wifi devices to my normal router and called them the same network name.
On all my devices (tablet, phone, windows 7 laptop) my wifi works everywhere, the device automatically picks up the strongest WIFI signal and can do everything as if it was directly connected to my normal router.
However, now I have a new windows 10 laptop and it does properly connect to my router wifi, but not properly to the Devolo wifi. When connected to the router wifi signal, the laptop can email and internet etc. without problems. But when connected via the Devolo wifi, the internet is not correct. Windows says everything is o.k. but I cannot email. When I do a speed test, it is able to ping and download, but not able to upload stuff.
I tried everything (re-install windows, turn off and on the router and devolo devices, changed channels on my devolo wifi devices via cockpit, etc.) but no success. Do you have advisce for me?
    Thanks, Richard

Devolo support reckoned my units were faulty so I returned them to Amazon for replacement. The replacements had exactly the same problem - only much worse - disconnections several times per hour on occasion.

I've returned these to Amazon for a refund - definitely not fit for purpose.

Another problem I found is that whilst they seemed to be compatible with the AV500 units elsewhere on my network, in reality data throughput on these slowed to a crawl when the Devolos were connected, for example, transferring a file to a NAS drive averaged 60KB/s compared to c.10MB/s with the AV500 units alone, and streaming HD video was impossible.

I've reinstated the Solwise AV500s and now everthing works as it should.

Well, firstly Jules, at least you are not out of pocket and glad you have something that works.

Richard, as stated earlier I have no experience of 1200s BUT was setting up mifi a few days ago on a Huawei unit and I have an idea. Go to All Settings/Network and Internet/Your Devolo 1200 unit (the one that states: "Connected"/Advanced. There is an option within that to "Set as metred connection". I just wonder if this is checked, thus throttling the throughput and reducing it to a minimum, rather than unchecked which I believe should be default? presumably all is good with the LAN connection to the wifi unit?

    Best wishes,

    Mike.

    Hi Mike,
Thanks for your advice. I tried it. However, I cannot find 'My Devolo device' under All Settings/Network and Internet/
I only find the wireless network adapter. Under advanced options of my network itself I see that 'metred connection' is switched off as it should.
If you could please explain me how to access the Devolo device then I can try that. Cockpit obviously works, but no settings there that need to be changed as I see it.
    Thanks, Richard

Sorry it was not clear Richard. When you click: All Settings/Network and Internet/ there is a list of available adapters with the one you are connected to at the top. Advanced options allows you to access the advanced options for the device you are currently connected to. If you cannot see your Devolo ssid there either the wifi on it is not working or, perhaps turned off in its own settings. Conceivably, if you bought it second hand/used/previously owned the Devolo ssid could have been renamed to anything the owner chose. It is usually something like devoloqnwexdty. There might be some numbers instead of letters.

    Hope this helps,

    Mike.

    Hi Mike,
I tried to do what you say. In Windows 10 there is no 'advanced options' per SSID, indeed only the network SSID you are connected to. I renamed my Devolo SSID (via Cockpit) to a unique name NAME1 and connected my wifi to this NAME1 network. Wiindows says there is internet. However, no emails sending or receiving. And internet is slow. If I go to Advanced options of NAME1 SSID, via the route you described, then all settings are fine, no data limitation. I cannot see a Devolo SSID in the list that I can log on to, apart from NAME1. Currently I am typing this logged in to NAME1, so there is working wifi. But it does not allow me to do everything. I hope I explained well. As said, all my other devices have no problem with running on the Devolo wifi, so it looks like a Windows 10 issue. But I am not sure.
    Thanks, Richard

Yes Richard, I was referring to the ssid connected to and was suggesting you checked whether the Devolo was shown as metred or not; this you have done. If internet is slow I would just use cockpit again to check the speed between your 1200 wifi and your router. In my house I have three ring mains and one is much slower than the others. Is it possible your 1200 wifi has a slow transfer through the power line? May also be worth checking your 1200 wifi signal strength using insider or wireshark. Obviously from what you say, another angle is to connect using a non win 10 device.

    Hope this helps.

    Keep me posted.

    Hi Mike,

WIFI speed is high enough (50 - 100 Mbps) and all my other devices (ipad, iphone, windows 7 laptop) work o.k. (can email and play YouTube movies etc.). Also, if I connect with a network cable to devolo it also works fine on my windows 10 laptop.
But my windows 10 pc does not. I took the power off my devolo and switched on again, no success.
An internet speed test gives no result for uploading, and low speed for downloading.
If I switch off my internet and switch it on again, connecting to wifi via my devolo, it says: 'only partial internet'.
After a few minutes that message disappears.
    Best regards, Richard

What speed does Cockpit show between the wifi and router Richard?

97 Mbit/s to one and 210 Mbit/s to the other (I have two Devolo 1200+wifi devices plus the 1200 base station (which is without wifi) plus my normal router)
