    Why is remote access so hard when its always been so easy


    I remember at least 3 different utilites that tech guys use to remote in on my computer - cant remember the names of them but we did not have to go through all this port forwarding and such on a router for these guys to connect. All we did was run a program and send a code and the other guy could access my computer. Now that I want to do this I can not find the names of these utilities and I we are having to pay a chunk of change to do remote access. I do see we can buy a utitlity for 39dollars that will configure my router for port forwarding for remote access. I also remember that during my studies for A + cert they mentioned a utility that would allow remote access for a tech to use. THANKS

    Hi folks

    In addition to the above you can send / receive files to / from remote computers easily enough as well without convoluted bits of software

    1) on the Windows machines enable SSH (OpenSSH) (it's in the optional features) as per :

    Installing SFTP/SSH Server on Windows using OpenSSH :: WinSCP

    2) install Filezilla (free software -- very fast FTP )

    Download FileZilla Client


    3) use sftp:// ip addr of remote machine as the target address

    job done -- fast secure file transfer -- you need to have the openSSH service installed on both local and remote machines.

    (I suggest this in addition to the original post because sometimes as well as Remote Assistance people just quickly want to send / copy some files between machines and don't necessarily have things like OneDrive or GoogleDrive available to do this -- this also sends / receives files via sftp over the internet too -- you can tunnel using Putty as well -- how to do this is rather beyond the scope of the original thread but it's easy enough to do ).

    Does it work fine over the Internet? Because the previous WIndows 7 version used to have LOTS of problems...
