No. I'm not duplicating anything. Just common practice to copy a folder first to make sure all is ok, then delete the original. I was simply explaining the process of OneDrive setup, from a new install perspective. I don't have any "backup routines" to copy anything to OneDrive. It is not a Backup System, it is a file sharing system.
We could go on and on and on. If Google Drive or any other is meeting your needs, stick with it.
Okay, just so I understand and I'm not missing something, I assume therefore all your "work" folders are within the root OneDrive folder? I guess if they weren't then they wouldn't be synced to the cloud by OneDrive?

So, assuming this is the case, the restriction of OneDrive is that you must have your folder structure configured within the root OneDrive folder? Therefore, if you have data across multiple disk drives this isn't possible without either "copying" the data or using symbolic links? I'm not criticising OneDrive, just trying to understand the way it works, which to me, appears to enforce some restrictions on how you organise your data.

This is correct, OneDrive is not intended as a fully customizable backup to the cloud application. Think of it as OneDrive (like F:\ for example). Anything you put onto that drive, is synchroized to the cloud. You can then log into multiple machines, and whatever you have in this OneDrive will be available to you. You have the choice if you want to also synchronize it locally to this computer.

Obviously you are limited by a few things
#1). You have a finite amount of space, 5GB for free for example.
#2). You can upgrade to 100GB of space for $1.99 a month.
#3). If you have Office 365, you get bumped to 1TB.
#4). Your upload speed of your internet connection will determine how long it takes to copy your data to the cloud.
