I am unable to use my NAS as backup as I cannot map as drive.
Trying to use IP address with drive mapping, it cannot be found.
New router, both plugged into it.
NAS is listed under files under "this pc" and contained files are accessible.
help.
NAS is seen as folder not as drive.
Attempt to use IP address to search will not find.
It is connected to the same (new) router, one with multiple RJ-45 ports
Need a bit more info on the NAS. Is this a custom built or store bought? If bought - Brand? Model? Link?
I have 2 x 2TB WDC My Cloud NAS drives connected to my Router. They are seen in Network in File Explorer but I Map the Public folder on them. And I can do it from any Wired or Wireless/Wi-Fi computer, but they are only for storage, no program installed for use. I can save files to them from within programs but haven't checked for doing backups to them, main use is simply to save and access downloads.
Yeah, my 4-bay WD My Cloud Pro is connected to my router via Cat5E. Here I've mapped 5 folders....
@tlfmd, "If" you can see the NAS in Network locations you can open Run and type the name of your NAS (as seen in the network) proceeded by double back slashers. Example "\\mycloudpr4100" (without quote marks) and click OK. This will show you all the folders on the NAS drive....
Simply right click a folder and map it.
That said, can you post an image of Windows Explorer showing the NAS as a folder...
To get it to show under Network you probably need to enable SMB 1.0 in Windows.
Settings > Apps > Programs and Features > Turn Windows features on or off >
Under SMB 1.0/CIFS tick 2 boxes for SMB 1.0/CIFS Client & Server.
That certainly applies to my NAS box though it will do up to SMB 3, and so does Windows 10.
Under Network & Internet settings > Change advanced sharing options > Network discovery > On
I guess it depends on age and brand/model as I've not had to enable smb1 on mine. And I am running Windows 10 as seen under my profile. I don't have smb1 enabled on the drive or in Windows. And I know because I was playing with it a few months back in trying to solve an issue.
The issue was resolved and as it turned out smb1 wasn't the issue nor was it needed. Point? smb1 disabled.
As you see in my previous post the NAS works just fine.
@tlfmd, Ok, I got the link. It's the same page I use to sign into the "My Cloud" for my NAS.
BTW, and don't know if this is your issue, but when I try to sign into that site using Microsoft Edge I get a page saying the site does not support Edge, use Internet Explorer.
If you're still running Edge (and not Edge Chromium) you should be able to switch to IE via the dots at the top right. Click that, go to More tools and click Open with Internet Explorer. From there if you've not done so click Setup My Cloud Home to setup an account for the drive.
