Ok so this Master Browser idea does give me some explanation. I only have 2 computers. I made a link in favorites to a network share and it does claim to see the other computer but it says I have something spelled wrong. Im thinking that the master browser needs to get figured out before I make shares. I can not share a folder to a computer if it does not come up in the advanced find.

I apologize. Somehow I got the impression that you had four computers on your Lan.

Since you have only two, my last post is useless. For only two machines, try this for both machines.

Goto file explorer and click on "Network." In the right pane, you should see both machines (by computername) and your router.

If both machines show up in the right pane, you're almost there. If not, you have a discovery problem.

Again, if both machines show up in the right pane, clicking on the computername icon will show all the shares on that machine. If clicking on a computername icon results in an error message. please post that message.

So it refuses to show up under network. I have a old link that I tried to brows to with MS word. I think last time when I tried to access the network with MS word it finally made my other computer show up under NETWORK then a whole mess of shares showed up.Why doesn't this computer Show up when I try to share to it ?-showsupword.jpg
So at least word seams to recognize the other system. So yes your right I do have a discovery problem. It just refuses to show up.

It just seams there must be some way to know if that comptuer shows some kind of presents on the lan wire. I am temped to buy a clean copy of windows 10 and start over on that other system.

No need to buy anything. If it is running W10 now and says 'activated with a digital license....' then you can clean install the same edition of W10 (Home or Pro) without providing a key. It will activate automatically from the existing digital license. The install media is freely available from Microsoft.

I am not sure if I should have password protection sharing on or off. I used to setup print servers and file servers when I lived in WA and worked for Boeing. I would use net use commands to configure shares. I remember using some DOS commands to diagnose things. Maybe I need to be looking at these tools still.
I have two computers 980TI and TVsystem. Each one has a name and it has login credentials.
    net use \\remotepc\C$ /u:username password
I think remotePC is equal to the name of the computer that would show up under NETWORK if it would show up.

To find the "computer name" that will be displayed under "Network", goto file explorer > control panel > system and security > system. See "Full computer name."

I am wondering if Norton Security has blocked some network discovery functions. I can turn all these back on but I do not really know what I am doing.

So norton security is controlling my firewall. So im wondering that may have something to do with other computer not showing up.

Can't help you with this, Don. I can't even remember how long it's been since anything named "Norton" lived in any of my computers.

Disable the firewall in Norton and see if that helps. As easy as that!

Restored my OS then reshared and it showed up

So I restored my OS from a image that I made and then I re-shared my drive E and for some reason this time it showed up finally.
Weird. So now at least I can see my main computer on the computer in my TV room. It will not accept my credentials even though I am positive I am entering in the right USER NAME and Correct pass. But now at least I am part way there. The main computer at least now does show up under "Network" in explorer.
Even though it was the same drive image that I used when this mess started …
