One Drive -Having trouble trying to move my Files to another location

I have Windows Version 1909 Build 18.363-593

Hello, I need some help please?

I cannot seem to be able to move any of my files out of my One Drive Folder over to my C Drive. Some error message or whatever it is pops up and wont allow me to. I didn't even realise it was all being put into my One Drive at all in the first place.

I tried to disable One Drive and then to uninstall it. Then I found that all my files are still there anyway.

But now I cannot even find any sort of button or icon to click on so I can change the settings so that I cantake control over my own files.

It was saying that my One Drive was full and I didn't even know it was putting my stuff in there in the first place. So I tried doing a System Restore and it reinstalled Windows 10. I got all these Red Xs on my files... and others with grey Xs.

Can anyone please help me with this problem? I just really am beside myself and don't know what to do.

Open OneDrive through your web browser : outlook.com > logon> > top LH corner > click on symbol beside Outlook > OneDrive

Right click on any files/folders you want > Download > select the target folder on your drive.

When finished ....

Open OneDrive > Settings > Account tab > Unlink this PC (this will "disconnect" OneDrive so it won't keep synching/updating)

Move/delete the files wherever you want to, on your computer, including files in the OneDrive folder on your computer

Then re-set up OneDrive to "point" to where you want the (new) OneDrive folder arrangement.

Tip : just use OneDrive for a backup location (but not the sole backup location), not a place of storage that access is needed.

I went and I did another system restore this morning after I had posted here, so that it would let me open up One Drive again, So I did and I unlinked from my PC and from My Account.

But now I tried to save some different things to my C Drive, even new fresh files I tried out and it says......
You do not have permission to save in this location.Contact the Administrator to obtain permission. Would you like to save in the Documents folder instead?

I am going to go try what you said... Thanks for your help so far, I appreciate it immensely. :)

But how do I get "permissions" to do these things? is that by doing what you just told me here? That way, I wont need permission? It seems odd that I dont have permission to make new files to put onto my own C Drive?

But wait a minute. Since I already disconnected One Drive, does this mean that first I need to restart it up agaoin, then do what you said in your comment to me? From this point on I wont do anything till I ask you first then wait for you to answer me.

Where were you trying to save? You cannot use, for example, the root of the C:\ drive itself.

No. You can access OneDrive files/folders in 2 ways - through the installed OneDrive program, or through the outlook.com web interface. Both can be used independently of each other.

I am just trying to save it through This PC and then to the C Drive as I have always done before. I have alot of stuff on there.

I never had this problem till the other day when I did the Update and I installed Windows 10 version 1909.

And when I try doing a System Restore to get rid of it, it won't let me. Its a real nightmare.
I wish that I had never downloaded it, I feel like I will never be able to get rid of this thing and I can barely even use my own computer now.

Claudia,

SystemRestore has always been unreliable. It is better to rely on making frequent system images instead.

Your post seemed like it was going to comment on where you were trying to save something but that you accidentally removed some text.

Normally you just go to OneDrive / Settings / Choose folder and slect the folders you want to be stored on your PC. The folders you select are then synched with the cloud version and copied to your PC from where you can copy them elsewhere if you wish.

I don't know how to make system images. Can you tell me how to do that please?

Now when I ry to open a .psp file thatI have created on my computer, and I have many of them I am using for a project I am doing that I have been working on for years now, a window pops up and says,

"You are attempting to open a file type of 'System File' (.psp). To view this file, copy it to your mobile device and open it with Microsoft Pocket streets"

And so now, I cannot even work on my slides I was making, in my Paint Shop pro Program, because I cannot open them any longer. And I cannot open hundreds of pictures, either.

The other day it started out by having a red X in the middle of each .psp file and the picture missing, just a thumbnail with the red X. But at least I could click on it and the picture was still there in my Paint Shop Pro program. And I could change it and save it as a .png file or .jpg file or whatever. But now it won't even allow me to do that.

The problem is that if I do move them somewhere else on my computer then when I try opening anything it says I don't have permission to open them. And to be honest, I need to figure out how to get all my files disassociated with OneDrive because it is ruining everything for me on my computer. It acts more like a Virus then a computer program, like it is aggressively trying to take over all my files. Then charging me a Ransom fee to even usemy own files. Like it keeps saying One Drive is 99% full and I have deleted nearly hundreds of items and it still says that and asks if I want to buy more space. I don't even want to USE this priogram, I think it is horrible, and I don;t think I ought to have to pay for space to use on my own computer anyway.

It has wrecked my Microsoft Word Program, I can barely even use that either, Then it keeps asking if I want to buy their Microsoft 365 program. It feels like they are just trying to make me have to buy a bunch of stuff and if I don;t then I can't have my files back.

Last night I was trying tio find out how to put Linux on my computer instead, but unfortunately I am afraid to try it. This is a brand new comoputer and I can barely even use it now. I was reading that you can supposedly "Unlink" from One Drive, but you can't really uninstall it. Now I feel like everything I do on my computer I might lose it. It pops up and tells me I dont have permission to use my own files, then tells me I need to ask permission from "whoever", I guess they mean my own self and One Drive, and I don't even know how I am supposed to do that? Its just crazy. It actas as if I am the "Enemy" who is trying toi view and use my own computer files.

I have my PC unlinked from One Drive and still, I cannot even open these files....
