NAS died along with HDDs. Can't even access the NAS after removing HDD

    NAS died along with HDDs. Can't even access the NAS after removing HDD


    TerraMaster F2-220 died last night. Fan was on full power and it disappeared from my network. Tried turning it off and on again and that's when it died. Both HDD LED lights went red and the LAN LED went out. So now it's just sat there, It can't be located anywhere on my network. Ran diagnostics and settings are correct but device won't respond. If it was just the HDDs I could deal but the whole thing seems to have died. Any suggestions? It was in RAID 0 so I can't even check if the HDDs are OK and the NAS has just failed.

    If you connect the HDDs to your Desktop you can check SMART health report of the HDDs with CrystalDiskInfo utility.

    The unit sounds like its toast. Remove the drives and place them in a external drive unit. If you can read the drives, then I would purchase a new replacement unit and copy the data from the old drive to the new unit.

    I think the the OP said the drives were configured as RAID 0 so I doubt putting them into another enclosure would allow him to recover any data.

    Raid 0 implies that both drive should be identical. Either drive (assuming both drives are ok), will have the same data. How ever if the OP/or somebody else was saving data to the NAS unit when it died, a disk could be corrupted or both. Nobody knows what the status is of the drives are, but I do believe the NAS unit itself has expired.

    I think that RAID 0 is stripped and RAID 1 is mirrored so if it was RAID 0 then the data is toast. RAID 0 vs RAID 1 - Difference and Comparison | Diffen

    Your right (sorry) I kept thinking Raid 1. WOW if that NAS unit is toast the op's chance of recovery is mute.

    Maybe that is why I backup my Raid 1 NAS to a external USB 3.0 drive. However I only do it every 4 times a year (but something will be saved).

    Yup, I have several USB3 enclosures provisioned with old HDs that are configured as RAID 0 but I never put anything on them that I can’t afford to loose, mostly redundant backups for double protection. Can never have too many backups especially with spinners so cheap now. USB3 combined with RAID 0 with 7200rpm spinners has really good write speeds.

    So, unless I can repair the NAS the data is gone? I took the drives out and Crystal disk says they are healthy, no data is recognized obviously, but says they are healthy. If I bought an identical NAS and put the drives in, they would still be lost?

    I’m not 100% sure that will work but it’s probably the only chance you have of retrieving the data. Since your going to need another NAS, I assume, then you’ll have nothing to lose by giving it a try. I’m definitely not an expert but it’s also possible that the firmware in the new NAS might not recognize your old array. If you can you should run this by the manufacture to see if they can give you an answer.

Quick access and HDDs

I would like to add my Hard Drives to Quick Access through the registry or another way. Possibly not manually. Anyone got any ideas?
How do you remove Quick access from the left side of your folders when you have the navigation enabled? I can remove all of the icons under it just fine, but I cannot remove Quick access as a whole.
